Ford Expo and Y-BLock Shootout, Columbus, Oh.
Labor day weekend at National Trail Raceway.
http://www.nmradigital.com/2012_event_s ... h_preview/
It is an all Ford event, with drag racing and car shows. One of the featured events is the Y-Block Shootout. Any Ford or Lincoln Y-block powered vehicles are welcome to participate and sometimes even other vehicles powered by uncommon ford engines are welcome. Everything from 100% stock vehicles to hot rods and customs to dragsters will be racing. This is the Y-Block event of the year.
There are never many trucks and I don't think anyone from this site has gone in the past few years that I've brought it up. It's an all Ford event which makes a great opportunity for a slick gathering and if you have a Y-Block, join us for the Shootout. If you don't have a Y but like to race, there are other brackets which you can participate in.
If we organize it well enough, it is possible that we can get the slicks in the pits right next to the Y-blocks which will be real cool because there is already the vintage feel that the Y-Block pit provides and it will be greatly enhanced by a neighboring pit of 10-20 or more slicks.
Oh, and if you need more motivation, there is money to be won. You can win money from the NMRA by placing in one of their events and the Y-Block shootout is funded by the "members" and there's usually 2-3000 or more distributed for various things, fastest, best reaction, most improved, winner, taking out the previous years winner, etc. I'm not going to kid you, if you do win, you're probably not going to win enough to cover the trip, maybe enough to pay for a meal or two while you're there.
A couple years ago one of the Y-block guys won bracket 3 of the NMRA races in a '56 T-bird and got a nice check from 'em.
For some reason I want to say last year, but it doesn't sound right so I'll say in recent years, another placed 2nd in bracket 2 and got a good sized check, too.
So, if you need money for motivation, there it is.

It was a blast. My best time was 15.95 @ 86mph. That was with the exact same tune and setup I use every day, ie no tuning at the track. I have no traction to launch so had to leave easy, short shifted 4500rpm to avoid breaking things because it had to get me the 600 miles back home, and it was my rookie weekend so there is more in it with a little more work and experience. The engine is definitely capable of mid to low 15s, maybe high 14s in the truck.

I don't want to start a new post, so back to the top. Labor Day Weekend 2012. You have plenty of time to plan. Who's going?
I'm not sure if I'll be there with the truck but I will be there. I need to complete the floor pan replacement that I started a couple years ago. The passenger side is getting pretty bad. I am planning to get a ramp truck this year so I may still be able to bring it depending on how far along I get.

Ha! they don't know what they're missing do they, Charlie!
I may try to make it there this year with my bird, but just having a hard time justifying the trip in the HEAT. Hope to see you there again.

They sure don't. Maybe I'm just not selling it. But hey, I'm not a salesman.
You can make it. I'm not bringing the truck but my car's ac does not work, so I'm going to deal with the heat.

Leaving in the morning. I guess I'll see you there if anyone is going. I won't have the truck there but the Y-block pit won't be hard to spot. If you see a bunch of '50s Fords, that's probably the spot. Most everything else is newer and, obviously, Mustangs.

Got home a bit over an hour ago. It was a good weekend but attendance was down. Friday was nice and sunny. It rained Saturday morning but they were able to get all of the racing in on Saturday and cancelled Sunday. Not one slick!!
I got to take a 504hp T-bird for a spin, 352ci stroker Y, near the hotel. Now my truck feels slow.
Start planning to go next year!
