I have a 65 f100 that the previous owner added power steering to. I have no idea what it came out of - but judging the steering column - I would guess mid to late 70s. I pulled the column when i redid the interior and the rag joint was absolutely toasted. The interior is done now - and I am ready to put the column back in. I need to get a new rag joint.
Are they relatively interchangeable? Is it something that I can get at my local parts store? If they are not interchangeable - how do I know what to get, since I don't know what year/model this power steering set up came out of...

For the most part yes. Ford and a few others used the same type. Just ask for one for your model truck and compare at the counter. I believe they used the same one for many years. Most all suppliers carry them because they are so common. Napa and others usually have them in the "Help" section.

JimDog,
I would check your cab corners (front supports) to make sure they are in good shape. Then check the firewall column mount to make sure it is a power steering mount. the manual steering mount puts the column at a different tilt IE:shredded rag joints.
some rag joints fit the column slots better than others
ps firewall column mount will have a PS on it (if it is for power steering)
