Bed Floor patching question

Post by White97 »

Picked up a really nice, basically rust free bed. By basically I mean one small rust spot.

The square panel in front of the wheel well, driver side has a hole and is pitted pretty bad. Can this be removed and replaced WITHOUT removing the cross brace underneath? I can see that I'll need drill out the spot welds on the three flanges underneath, but the front is hidden or sandwiched between the brace and the front bed panel.

I don't want to just cut and weld a patch when the correct fix is to weld in a complete new piece.

Already welded shut all the stake holes and welded the rear seam completely shut and smoothed. This is the last fix before paint.

I did same repair on my F250, both sides. Removed spot welds from above, cleaned x-brace and blew out accumulated mock, and fashioned new piece with correct flanges and space to replace seam seal. Welded from inside box. Looks factory.

Thanks - With the bed flipped over I can see te side and back flange, but the front just kind of dissappeared betwen the brace and the front panel. Didn't want to start removing it without knowing what I 'm getting into. And the accumulated gunk is what caused the hole.
