How I do a patch panel

Post by oldtrucks »

This a patch panel I'm working on. It's on the Charger that's in my shop but the process is the same for just about any patch. This is my first attempt at writing up a procedure so bear with me. Comments are welcome.

I formed this panel with a piece of metal I had laying around, sorry I didn't take pictures of that process, I will on the next one. After I formed the patch and determined its final size I scribed its outline on the quarter panel and used my cutoff wheel to cut out the bad metal then trimmed and fit everything. I coat the exposed rusty metal with POR 15.

Here I started to tack the patch into place I'm using my 110 volt Lincoln wire feed for this and I'm using the "easy grind" wire.

So there it is. I'll finish welding it in tomorrow and finish grind it and treat it with metal prep and prime it.
Here's a link to the project for those that wish to see it.

Within a couple of weeks work will start in earnest on EZBNGRN's project. I'll attempt to do a full documentation of the build.

Be careful, some chemicals give off poisonous fumes when heated/welded.
