I thought I solved the great tailgate mystery, nevermind...

This video was shot in 1965. At :40 is a nice clear view of a 1965 F-100 with a "1967" tailgate. It has to be a Custom Cab tailgate. Oh, enjoy the rest of the video.

(edit) On second thought my memory is as fuzzy as the video...(end edit)

Well, fudge. It's been so long since I've seen the 64-66 tailgate. And I didn't feel like going out in the cold with a flashlight to look at the "wrong" tailgate on my '66. The fuzzy video looked like the rib on the top and around the letters, but now that I compare these two side by side, I guess I'm wrong. I thought I was on to something... But I've seen so many "'wrong" tailgates on '66s I've wondered if they weren't Custom Cab options or the factory ran out of '66 tailgates and started using '67 tailgates. Wouldn't be the first time.

Tracy,
That is some great stuff you posted. It brings back some great memories. Enjoy seeing the picture of the Gay Pontiac car. I grew up in Kingsville,Tx about 45 miles south of Corpus Christi. I knew the Gay brothers and actually raced against them a few times. I was running a 57' Corvette 283hp back in those days. I now live in Dickinson, Tx about 2 miles from the Gay Pontiac dealership.
