Rewire cont. Brake light switch

Post by Uncle Skip »

Here's a picture of the low pressure brake light switch I got from Ron Francis. It includes the connector that slips on the top of the switch connectors. I mistakenly said in my other post it was from Inline-tube.
Makes a nice looking installation and doesn't take as much pressure to operate the switch.

Hey Skip-
I just converted my 66 over to dual m/c, power brakes and used silicon fluid. I bent up all new lines and put the original style brake light switch inline with the front circuit, but have no brake lights. Could it be that I need one of these switches?
How can I troubleshoot that it's not an issue with the wiring or something?
I'm an electrical idiot :(

Thanx in advance for your help.

Steve.
I'm thinking that you probably have a problem with the switch. I put a new one in my truck when I wired it originally and I wasn't putting enough pressure on the rear line to operate it.
But if you want to check it do the following.
First, take the two wires off the brake light switch and jump between them with a wire of some kind, go to the back and see if your brake lights are on.
If they are not on, you :
1. have a bad ground on the tail lights
2. have a problem with the switch. The one I showed you is a lot "softer" and doesn't take as much pressure to operate. Change the switch.
3. have a fuse problem on the power feed line to the brakes. Use your multimeter to see if you have 12 volts coming from one of the wires. If you don't have 12 volts to one of those wires, you have a problem either in the turn signal cam or the hot wire to the turn signal cam.
I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.

Thanx Skip.
I ordered one of these switches yesterday from Ron Francis, but in the meantime, I'll try your suggestions for troubleshooting the problem.
Again, many thanx.

Fair warning: I have this type of switch on my Rambler. it's the kind it came with. I have replaced it several times and they never last more than a year. On the Rambler forums this is a common refrain. THEY DON'T LAST. You're MUCH better off going with a mechanical switch.
