tail gate fixed but dont close?

Post by Shaffs 64 »

Well, I now have my box painted, tail gate was fixed and I'm installing the wood on the floor.....But I ran into a little situation! When I tried to shut the gate it hits on the edge of the wood ends. I thought maybe I could shim out the hinges but the tail gate is already just covering the lip of the box sides on each end. It looks like could maybe raise it up about 3/16 of inch but the original holes would show if I did that. Stuck now wondering what in the world to do? Anyone been there done that out there?

Can you trim/shave the ends of the boards off.

I thought of doing that at first, but I have that finisher that covers the end of the boards and that is what is hitting the inside of the gate.
I'm thinking that the only way ( now that it's all painted) is to try and shim maybe a 1/16 at the back of the hinge, and move up a 1/16 and that may be enough to get it to clear.....Thanks for your input Danny, I appreciate it.
Man my heart sank.....when I went to close that gate..........
