4x4 shifter

Post by Paul Merrell »

Well here is a little tip for the guys with original 4x4 shifter. After I put my truck back together I had a rattle for the gear stick for 4wheeldrive. I could grease it and it would not be as rattle as bad. So I removed the stick and found the shoulder bolt worn and the hole in the stick egg shaped. So I looked for some bushings or sleeve and I found at O'Reilly Auto Parts cross shaft bushing's MTM 74016. There about .030 thousands and I took the shifter to a machine shop and reamed out. I asked them to turn down the shoulder bolt but, they said the bolt is hardened and the stick is cast with nickel. It only cost $50.00 to fix the shifter. And the machinest said I got my money worth. The shifter should last a while longer and if it gets loose just install new bushings.
