Pulling engine
Pulling engine
I'm pretty close to pulling the engine out of my 65 but have a question on the transmission. I have cab plate off so I have access to the transmission. Do I have to take the whole top off the transmission or can I get the shifter off without taking the top off? Question 2: Will the driveshaft drop out or do I need to take it apart at the U joint? Other than that - I should have it pulled tomorrow. I have an I6 with a 4 speed for sale in Iowa!
Still have my really nice bed for sale as well!
Re: Pulling engine
There's a metal cup under the rubber boot that holds the shifter in the transmission. You should be able to push down and turn counter clockwise to release the shifter. It will take a little effort. That's how the new process shifters come out, I assume its the same for other transmissions.
Re: Pulling engine
Four speed has a two piece driveshaft, you have to unbolt the U-joint at the trans.
Re: Pulling engine
Make sure before you remove the shifter lock collar that you have the shifter and trans in neutral. If its not in neutral it will be hard getting the shift forks back into the proper alignment. Push down on the shift collar with a box end wrench probably about an 1" to 1 1/2". If you dont have one that large cut a hole in a 8-10" inch piece of 2x4 to go down over the shifter. Either of these methods will help you push down on the spring with some leverage as it has a fare amount of tension on it.Godlover wrote:I'm pretty close to pulling the engine out of my 65 but have a question on the transmission.
