Body Question About My Bed Floor

Post by MeZapU »

Is the seam at the rear of the bed floor supposed to be filled with seam sealer, or is it left just like this in my picture? I had the bed sandblasted before I started body work and just really never noticed

if you fill it with sealer water will not drain.

Wow, wish my trucks looked that good in that area. I usually drilll holes in my beds to make sure the water does not stand in it. Those holes up in front got easily clogged and weren't cleaned out. Held water in the area and caused the rust most of us have there.

Like Rich said,
you can fill that and just drill some holes.
Would be much easier to keep them clean so it drains.

I'm attempting to keep as many original details as possible within reason. I plan in getting a color matched LineX bed liner sprayed in. Water drainage is of little concern. I'm spending so much time getting this bed as straight as possible because after the liner gets sprayed in, I don't want to look at the dents I didn't fix for the rest of my life wishing I took the time to do the job right.

REALLY nice bed!
You have to remember the bedliner won't get into the drainage in the front - it can still clog & rust.
That would be real bad after all that work.
As long as you make sure to keep the drains clean - not a problem.
I would paint up in the drain with POR 15, Magnet Paint or Rust Encapsulator.
I would bet even after blasting there is a little surface rust in there anyway - Ford didn't get paint in there either back then.
