I do too! I've certainly seen worse. From this angle the lines seem to go together well.

It appears to have started as a '59 Coronet, the last year of full-size Coronet production. They were "dressed down" Desotos, probably to use up any remaining parts from the soon-to-be-defunct Desotos. I believe a few 392's were found in the police packages.

Funny how things change.
I remember a dealer offering me a NEW 2 year old SVO Stang for less than 1/2 of sticker.
They about couldn't give it away...........now it would be worth more than it was new if nice enough.
With the resurgence of old school customs all sorts of non typical stuff is coming out of the woodwork.
I think it's awesome!

That looks something like you would see in Mexico or a 3rd world country where they dont throw anything away. You just keep recyclying things until there is nothing left.

When the SVO first hit the local dealerships, no dealer was willing to offer much of a discount. I told several that I could buy a heavily discounted Mark VII for the same money; and I didn't feel that many people would pay a heavy premium over a Mustang GT for a four cylinder Pinto engined vehicle, no matter how well it performed. None offered much of a rebuttal to my statement, nor did they offer a significant discount, until much later.
Now, as you stated, the SVO is worth considerably more than the same year model Mark VII in equal condition! Oh well, I've had multiple versions of both, and both are still on my all-time favorites lists, along with the mentioned four-eyed GTs.
Back closer to the original post, although the "Coronchero" is somewhat interesting, I can't help wondering how many posters who expressed a positive opinion toward it would have the same sentiments about the somewhat similarily-styled '58 Ranchero

Who can predict what is or isnt cool 50 years later?

I love the early Rancheros and square birds. We have been shopping fo a classic DD for a while and it looks like its going to be a T-Bird. The misses likes the 55-57, which is out of the price range, I like the 58-60, but she doesnt. My second choice is the 64-66 for the disc brakes, but her second choice is the 61-63.

Production numbers for the 58-66 birds was pretty low, but surprisingly many have survived in fine condition, and there are lots of them for sale.

i love the "bullet" birds, but i also like the sequential turn signals of the later birds. i also like the aircraft inspired dash pods and switches of the later cars. plus they had gobs of power too.

63 has the best interior, but 64 had a good one too.
i would almost buy one just for this:
