Bumpers............

Good morning to all. After finally locating a hitch for 'Limestone', {my beloved slick}, me and one of my sons along with a good freind of mine whom is also a member of our club, 'Robert' a.k.a. {rwhistles} installed the 'Drawtite' on the old girl with a minimum of fuss. We had to drill a few holes in the frame but everything lined up pretty damn good. We was'nt able to reattach the rear bumper as i had hoped because of the home made brackets that were in the way. The bumper is now for the taking, in favor of another steel painted one that i need. I'm pretty flexible on any kind of rear bumper as i really need to fill in the gap above the new hitch. After looking at Roberts bumper on 'Sherman', his 61 F-350, i could definitly swing with something like his. Which leads me to this. Would a simple unpainted steel bumper for a stepside fit a styleside 8 ft. longbox using the rear brackets for a stepside? Would it be long enough? Would the brackets fit? Any input on this would be much appreciated.
......................................Anyone of our members that need a homemade bumper that will bolt right up to our slicks, just let me know, 'FREE' to a slick that needs it before i put this on CL. I like it but caint use it anymore as it flat interferes with the Drawtite.

I used a roll pan to fill the gap above the hitch.

Looks pretty good. But i'd rather go with a painted bumper. Nice pic tho.

A lot of step bumpers that where used on these trucks will not interfere with receiver hitch installation.

Yeah i'd like to get one of those 'BWF. Sooner or later i'll find one. The bumper i took off 'Limestone' was a completely homemade bumper using a length of steel channel with brackets welded to it that fits our frame rails. Strong as heck but totally in the way of my new hitch. Thinking about using a standard primer bumper with the older brackets for awhile, see how it does.

Ron call me crazy but I'm thinkin with a little trimming your bumper should work with the hitch .

You know 'Rick', i thought the same thing on this end. I'd rather keep that old homemade bumper rather then spend precious dollars on a bumper that i really dont need. I'll do a mockup this coming weekend and support this thing on jack stands and see. A little trimming would prolly be all that is necessary. Thanks for the poke in my sides {spiritual guidance}.

Well it aint gonna work. Did the mockup yesterday with the old bumper and the homemade brackets are just flat in the way of my new hitch.

The 'Calvary' came over the hill. One of our members bailed me out and gave this to old 'Limestone'..........

Needs cleanin up, but otherwise in pretty good shape. My club buddy, 'Rwhistles' gave this to me. Robert came to my rescue and donated this from an old 61 one ton. Fine specimen of a human being he is. All i had to do was go over to his place and pick it up. Thats exactly what this forum/61-66 F-Series trucks are all about. BTW-Thats one of my sons doin the ground work.

got to thinking about that bumper after you left ron.that thing has been around, was on a 63 f250 I had then when I got my 66 f350 I put it on that truck. after the 66 burnt around 01-02 it sat until I bought my 61 f350 in 09.I put it on that truck until I found the bumper thats on it now. now its on your 66 f100.

Its always nice to know a little history behind a part like that when most bumpers of that era are long gone. Thanks for the valuable info my freind.
