Hmmm! Next someone will adapt some T-bird style covers to a set of LS-X heads, put them on an older Chebbie small block and tell people it's a Y-block with HEI and aftermarket accessories! :peepwall: whistle.gif

Always liked the bird covers, but it seems a an extreme expense to go to for a set of valve covers that don't belong on a motor, since there are tons of other covers available for a Windsor.

I think that's cool as hell. Would love to listen to the folks at a car show trying to figure this one out of explain it to their kids. I'd even do the stock or chrome stock covers.

If you're so ashamed of a motor that you have to disguise it, why use it?? Put a Y in there. Have the real thing.

This has been done with Chevies, too. I don't know about the LSX, but Chevies, nonetheless. Truth be told, a Chevy is much more convincing.

X3
For the price of those valve covers plus the plates and towers, one could probably build a decent Y-block! I realize, it's individuality, not economics, butbut.gif

I am not ashamed of my roller cam 302 - I like these engines.
I didn't keep the Y because it costs double to rebuild............simple economics.
After all, a 2K+ engine rebuild would keep the 64 in the garage for an additional year.
That said I do want it to have more old school charm. My original plan with the cosmetics on this engine were to make it look like an early 60s 289 - it even has an early 60s Mustang intake on it. Just thought it was a cool dressup. I will probably run a pair of stock finned aluminum covers on it.
I still think this is cool though.

The "you're" wasn't directed at you or any specific person, Greg. You are not trying to make it look like something vastly different than it really is and that is a huge difference.

I think most people do these sorts of things to improve the looks and be a bit different, not to fool anyone. I am keeping an eye out for a set of FE T-Bird valves cover cheap. I'd like to adapt a set of those to a 302 or 351W because they look better in my opinion. But if I found a set of those y-Block covers at the right price I'd use them. Maybe someone should start casting 260/289/302/351W vavle covers with the old T-Bird logo. Might sell pretty good.

Both the adapters and the T-Bird covers are, or were, on the market. Again, pricey though, IIRC!
