63 wrong bed - 3rd time's the charm

Post by dbrady »

So my first/second try with the 64 short and long bed did not make it to the end, Given I no longer have a place to work on a slick, seems my time trolling on Craigslist and E-bay could have been better spent on other pursuits. I placed a bid here and there, tried to coordinate a meeting on a nice camper special in Columbia. Why do people list ads than never returns calls? Emails I undestand but not returning but phone calls - sorry I digress.

Not sure whether it is good news or bad but won an auction for a 63 wrong bed today. Think I'll send this one straight to a restoration shop, thereby increasing the odds it will get finished.

Found this truck picture on the internet and am looking for a build to be somewhat similar:

At this time no radical ideas for the restore, bold colors, etc. Going to shoot for simple and classic.

Go back to your photobucket album. Look on the right side of the page and you'll see a box that says: Links to share this photo: Click on the link that says IMG before it and copy it and then paste it into your post. Are you adding the URL to the link?

Your link should start with: [URL=http:
And end with: [/IMG]

Mine has the following info in between the start and end:
//s817.photobucket.com/user/Gerald43/media/DSCN0890.jpg.html][IMG]http://i817.photobucket.com/albums/zz96 ... CN0890.jpg

Should work.

Decent looking truck. Good start. Looks like all the pieces are there. The trim pieces alone (which seem to be in good shape) are probably worth $100 to $200 (and hard to find). Original radio in the dash.
Although I like red trucks, the darker colors (black or dark blue) seem to look better (at least to me) on the "wrongbeds".

I was wondering if you still are on this forum. We traded some PM's about sO/T stuff in December and will try to give you a call on that one day soon - I hope.

Do you know what shop you will use for the resto?

Looks like you have all of the bed trim, those pieces can be hard to track down.

Is there a link to the history of why the truck has the wrong bed?

Basically in 61 ford came out with the unibody trucks . They didnt go over real well so in 63 they put the bed from the 57-60 trucks on what would have been a flareside truck cab and chassis as they didnt have a bed yet that matched the body lines of the newer trucks . The " right bed " came out in 64 and lasted through 66 . The wrong bed was still available on bigger trucks such as the F250 and 350 past 64 and thus the reason we call the 63 seperate bed styleside a wrongbed :D.

You do understand that "wrong bed" is an affectionate term among enthusiasts, because it looks wrong, but is actually "correct" or "right" if you prefer. Just as the 64 styleside bed is "correct" for the 64 (and 65,66 2 whd trucks.

Grits X2. Plus the added benefit (IMO) of the cool tailgate.
