Update on Kenny's wife Kive's condition

Post by Gritsngumbo »

I've been in text contact with Kenny (62galxe for those who don't know) today and via Facebook with his sister Cathi. Here's an overview of her condition.
"In the accident her liver was damaged and she had massive internal bleeding. They did almost lose her on the table, but managed to save her by removing some of her liver. She continues to bleed internally but they have performed 2 additional surgeries and she will need at a minimum 2 more. They seem to be getting better control of her bleeding. She is sedated and on a breathing respirator, kidney dialysis and feeding tube. She has cracked ribs and some injury to her neck. Those they will address later as they are not considered life threatening.
Kenny is holding up reasonably well. He has his moments where he sort of loses it but overall he is being very strong and stoic."
She emphasized how thankful they were and how important the well wishes, prayers and good thoughts from the Slick 60's group are to the entire family. BTW: They are still newlyweds. Got married just after Christmas.

Thanks Gerald for posting that. Forgive me but I had forgotten he had
gotten married so recently. This has to be really rough for him right now.
Prayers to her and him and her sisters too. TR

Afternoon update: Removed a bit more of her damaged liver as well as her gallbladder. Didn't need to give any blood. More inspection surgery planned for tomorrow.

Saturday Update (via Kenny's sister Cathi): "Kive is having her 5th surgery and is still in the Shock Trauma Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Herman Hospital. She is still critical but we have noticed slight improvement. They are taking wonderful care of her and we are all optimistic.... Thanks for all your kind words and prayers."

As of yesterday (sorry for the delayed post I was running the roads yesterday) Kenny reported that she was beginning to wake up from the sedation and seemed to recognize them. All good news it seems. Still a ways to go, but progress is progress.

Here's a Monday update from Kenny's sister Cathi:
"Well it's now just a waiting game. Still critical but I don't believe they are going to perform any more surgery. She now needs to heal and recover and get everything working like it should...... My personal opinion, she's going to be fine - it may take months, but she is going to be just fine..."

Today's update from Cathi Nelson (Kenny's sister):

"What a difference a day makes. She is off the ventilator- WooHoo !!! Still critical, but breathing on her own now... Every day she is making a bit of progress and to us, any progress is great news no matter how small. We are all so proud of her.... Keep fighting Kive !!!!!"
