$70 bucks at C.N.C., was in great shape with zero pitting though so a rough one would take more time to fix. They do great work, we just have found out about them.thenephilm wrote:The radio bezel looks great. What's it cost to have one of those rechromed?

Re: '66 F100 Custom Cab Short/Styleside Factory Correct Rest
More details on the hinge coating, had a guy ask on another forum so I'll post the details here too.
Parts glass bead blasted before coating.
Hinges in the solution.
Oiled/cleaning.
After cleaning with dish detergent and spraying with flat clear.
We bought the concentrate from Palmetto Enterprises and followed their instruction sheet. Heat the water first, then add the concentrate once it's up to 190-200. Keep the water at that temp while the parts are dipped. It takes about 10 minutes for the parts to darken all the way. Then spray the parts with oil/WD-40 AS SOON AS the parts are removed, or else the mineral salts will dry on the surface (can't clean them off later). Spray/wipe until the parts are clean. That's all the instructions said to do, but we went another step farther and cleaned the parts in soapy water to remove the oil and shot them with a couple thin coats of flat clear. We soaked them overnight last night, and they were starting to rust this morning, so we had to blast them and start over. Just wash/dry them and shoot clear as soon as they're dry.Would love for you to explain the process for the coating.

What a shine. Never saw a sharpie used as a guide coat before.

John the truck looks fantastic!
How long do you let the clear cure before you go at it with the sharpie?

I'd be interested in knowing how you go about restoring the nuts/bolts. Very good work so far!

Thanks!! We usually wait about a week before starting the wetsand/buffing process.scbolt wrote:John the truck looks fantastic!

How long do you let the clear cure before you go at it with the sharpie?
Thanks, we have a blast cabinet and a mesh bucket that we use to glass bead blast small hardware like bolts/clips. Then they're painted using a paint that replicates the look of the appropriate plating.dkjwall wrote:I'd be interested in knowing how you go about restoring the nuts/bolts. We're still working on it, just haven't updated the post lately. We'll adjust and bleed the brakes today, battery/hold down is in along with the positive cables (still need to find a correct negative cable), headliner is being finished today and the back glass in going in. We are missing a few little pieces; I'll make a post below to see if anyone can help us find those.
Here's the latest. Inside and left side of the bed has been blocked and shot with tinted K93. It's ready to wetsand and paint. Still have to finish blocking the right side of the bed and get it in K93.
Tailgate is ready too.

Found the firewall clips locally today so we cleaned them up and put them on. Also hooked up the washer nozzles.
Got new cables for the battery but the ends were dull and flaky looking. Glass beaded them, then burnished them with a stainless brush. The battery post got the same treatment. Can't be losing points at shows for shabby battery posts.

Outside of the bed is painted. Still need to wetsand and reclear it to level out the mask lines, then wetsand/buff it. We'll paint the tailgate once we get a set of decals to mask the FORD letters.

Here are videos of the first start. The owner had his mechanic come over and set the timing and adjust the carb.
