I am bidding to win

Post by bmcgc »

If I win this I can go pick it up in MO and avoid the FL trip the misses is dragging me on next week.

I like the 240/AT combo.

I will stick it in a friends shop until I have time to do something with it.

That is an odd duck for sure . That is the first BBW uni I have ever seen that didn't have the custom cab trim . I also noticed that although it has the Aluminum 62 grill and the trim down the sides it doesn't have the trim around the front window and even stranger it doesn't have any of the trim around the rear window and it looks like it never did . That was a special order truck for sure .

The 240 in there is cool too. I would like to see how they did it. I put a 300 in my 63, that is why I am curious. Good luck on the bidding.

My misses wants a classic truck to drive, I want her to have an auto or a stick. A column shift is rough in heavy traffic with no PS.

This truck may be cobbled together or it may be a rare oddity. Who knows.

This is a nice one as well. I will be down there next week, I think I will take a look see, but Im not interested in buying it.

Personally I like the ebay one better than the Fla one . Did I mention it is a rare beast it isn't cobbled together . You cant even get the BBW rubber today without the stainless option for it not to mention I have never seen a stock BBW without the aluminum trim around the bottom of the back window . This truck was special ordered this way . I know the engine and tranny are not original but I would bet the body is quite original .

I can tell you this if I had the money to be bidding on that truck I would own it :D.

Personally I would much rather have the Florida truck, assuming it's as nice as it looks and the paint isn't covering up torque-box rust.

There's just something off to me about the Missouri truck, plus there's indications of torque-box rust in the pics. The engine/tranny swap is a turn-off for me also.

Rick: Curious as to why you think "This truck was special ordered this way."?

I can believe the stainless trim was possibly in too bad a shape to salvage and they just took it off. AFAIK the stainless trim is not re-popped. The BBW window glass IS re-popped but to the tune of $600-700, but not sure about the gasket.

Hope you get the truck for your missus.
I have to tell you, if it were closer I would be bidding for it as well.
Unlike the idiots bidding against you, driving up the price, I would swoop bid at the very end.
Good luck, hope you get it at a reasonable price

And all this time, I thought these old relics I buy just had missing trim! It never occurred to me I might have stumbled on a bunch of rare special order vehicles :P
Now if I could just determine which box needed to be checked to special order that '62 grille. I wonder if outer door handle surrounds could be ordered singularily like the in-door ice boxes?

Its not he is claiming that its a one owner original.

I sold a 53 Ford vert once to a guy who offered me an extra $1000 if I would say that my dad was the original owner.

Here is what I see,,, Vin # shows it's a 63, 62 grill ??, no s/s around the w/s most likely cause replaced windshield and did not want to pay extra for glass company to install the s/s or tore it up taking it off, hard to see the back rubber if just missing,, Truck I believe been pieced together,, I would look at chrome real close to see if I can tell what color the molding was since looks like all the chrome has had paint stripped,, If you can see some traces of black then will be correct,, if red traces then for sure somebody doing something here,,, The Bed has some issues,,,, Overall the truck looks good with a lot of potential,, but price matters,, the 4 keys turn me off is rust in bed, grill changed, and trim down the side

Gerald I have seen live and in person 2 BBW trucks I own one of them . Yes the glass is reproduced and the rubber gasket is reproduced . BUT the only way to get a new gasket is one made for the stainless trim . I cant see why someone would remove the stainless trim around the rear window or the front window for one it aint just going to come out easy . I had to cut the trim out of the rubber on the truck I got my rear BBW glass out of . Also why would they remove the Aluminum trim around the bottom of the window and then fill in the holes that the trim was held on with . They went to all this trouble to remove Stainless and Aluminum trim and yet left the Aluminum trim on the sides of the truck but also removed the Custom Cab script off of the doors ? . I truly think this truck was ordered this way . Why who knows ? .

Paul I agree the engine , tranny and grill are not original but I just cant see a reason to remove some of the trim and not all of it and as I said I have never seen a BBW Uni that wasn't a custom cab and didn't have all the trim on it .

I would still have the ebay truck over the craigslist truck if for no other reason than it is a big back window shortbed which by the way from what I have seen is also pretty rare . I have seen a few Short BBW's but I have seen ALOT more Long BBW's.

This truck may have been in a bad wreck sometime during its 50year old life and the body shop rebuilt it as cheaply as possible.

Its had at least one color change from the pics.

There is probably no one alive who knows.
