Slick 60's

Hey guys! New guy here...sold my 1961 f100 unibody and bought a super clean 1966 f250 with a 352 with 390 heads, automatic with 9" rear. I loved my uni (has a '63 before that) but always loved the looks of the '66. Wasn't planning on getting a F250 but it just worked out that way. My question is : what are the main differences between the F100 and the F 250?

Major differences between the F250 and F100 include the 8 lug pattern for the wheels on the 250 vs the 5 on the 100. Also the 250 has heavier springs/brakes and uses a heavier rear end. There may be more differences but those are the big ones. I'm sure more folks will chime in with specifics on the rear ends etc...

Thanks guys. I'm located in Portland Oregon. First thing I plan on doing is removing the aftermarket running boards and find stock wheels and hubcaps. I love her!

I would get the hood painted white also to get the right look

From Florida x-2.I agree, get rid of those dumb looking running boards and set yer mind on doing it some justice. Good looking old truck ya got there. As you, i also have the F-250 with the 352 and 390 heads. These old trucks will pull a house down. Frames are a tad beefier then the F-100's and many of them came with lower geared rearends {higher numerically}. Should be a small metal tag affixed to one of the bolts on yer 9 in that will tell ya what set of gears you got. Good luck and we always like the pics.

From your pic, it kinda looks like an 8-lug wheel on the front,,,but I can't make out the rear lug count.

As it's been said earlier, F250s were originally equipped with 8-lug wheels. So...has someone switched out the rear housing for a F100 9-inch rear housing outfitted with 5-lug axles?

All slick 2WD F250 were originally-equipped DANA 60 rears which were all equipped with 8-lug axles/wheels.

All slick 2WD F100's were originally equipped with either a 9-inch Ford or DANA 60.3 - both of which were equipped with 5-lug axles/wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle. I have never heard of a slick 9-inch rear housing being outfitted with 8-lug axles.

It's an 8 lug on the rear also. The diff said it was a 4.10.

Man, I sure love this truck. I've owned two uni body's, and love the way they look, but the rust issues and finding parts for them was difficult at best. Plus, that straight axle ride beat the crap outta me! I wasn't particularly looking for a 250 but this one is in such good shape that I couldn't pass it up for the price($2700). The odometer reads 55000 and from the condition, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the true mileage. But probably not, eh? (:

I'm going to go buy a set of 16" split rims and hubcaps off a '65 f250 today!

Like the tool box. I found a challenge restoring my 65 F250's suspension. Ivan over at DC was helpful. I found that from the F250 and F100 2wd share front axles and spindles. Also the front springs. At least that's what the parts catalog showed.
