Pat,
I think its going to look great
How long were your boards, and how did you buy wood and all that hardware for only sixty dollars?
What kind of wood is it?

I bought treated lumber, I think it's pine
1"x6" 8 ft long and I cut them to length

Original boards are full 6" wide...... These were 5.5"

But since there is gaps anyway... Still worked fine

Ordinary bolts (not stainless) nuts & washers

Probably won't last as oak or other higher quality would...
But if are treated ocasionaliy with linseed oil, I think they will
Last me till I'm done with it !

Lumber was about $40 hardware $20

Log chains , toolboxes, parts will be put in the back....
Can't justify high dollar wood, just to get beat up

Lookin good Pat. I've often thought cheaper wood for my bed might be a better alternative because I would like to be able to use my bed also. Probably not to the extreme that you will but it is a truck. Keep up the good work Pat.

Been a while since I posted... Going slower than I wanted... But still going
Inside of cab painted.... Need to get doors back on
Totally re-wired entire truck , as mouse pizz destroyed ALL switches
I didn't go back to stock switches.......
I had too much free hardware (wire, switches, fuse block) to justify
Spending money on a different harness
Since I have no fuel gauge (converted to propane) and mechanical
Oil pressure & mechanical water temp... Eliminated a lot of wires
Almost new carpet (free) is layed down , and I'm happy with it

Hopefully it will make it to the local car show before it has to start back
Life as a farm truck..... The 390 seems to be very healthy....
Kinda exited to get it out on the road

Finally got to hear the engine run again after setting it
In its new home.... Starts easy & ldle & throttle response is nice
I really think I'm gonna like the propane setup
Image

Interior not bad... Fresh paint & carpet I got for free... Gotta get the doors done !!!
Image

Cleaning the front clip... It's not perfect, has some small rust issues....
Patched the ones under the headlight buckets... Wire brushed & sanded
Good undercoating paint should keep it solid for a long time....

F600 Front clip on.... Looks funky with regular size tires
I think with the 37" hummer tires , it'll look fine

Put the doors back together
New window guides (anti rattle kit)
Cleaned & lubed all mechanisms
Windows go up & down like a new truck !
New door seal from LMC ....
So far it seems good...
Got them hung and shut tight

Looking good!
I dable with some woodwork, the pine you've used will be a bit softer than the oak so it will mark easier if you throw things on it, but should last longer being pressure treated anyway. Looks like its fairly easy to pull a board and replace if need be as well.
I like your truck!

When I plan to haul anything that may scare the bed floor, I toss in a piece of plywood that covers most of the floor. The plywood takes the beating instead of the floor.....once the task has been completed, I remove the plywood, maybe rinse it off and then put it back on the garage floor. -- It works for me! :2cents:

Coming along great!
Not sure about the Fords, but the competition came with either a northern or southern pine, according to who you ask... painted the body color.
Having spent my youth with my southern end firmly attached to the bed in my dads trucks, I would think it was more like a fir than a pine. Dad also would fit 3/4 inch plywood in the back of his trucks when hauling heavy objects in order to save the beds.

Drove it on a 10 mile test ride
Cab was pretty tight & it rode pretty good
Think it will be smoother .. Tires have been sitting for a while
Propane works really good

Need to adjust the clutch a bit
Need to adjust the brake shoes
It will be in a car show in a few days....
That's timing !

Just an update

Had a little issue with clutch....
It was slipping !
I should have inspected before installing :cussing:
Flywheel was fine
New clutch & pressure plate & throwout bearing installed
Engine is really strong
I've driven almost 1000 miles with virtually no trouble
Had to replace the pickup coil inside of distributor
It cruises really nice at the 50-55 mph range
Will definitely go faster, but those 4x4 gear ratio....
i am real pleased with it

Would I do anything different ?
Yes... I would widen the bed 6"
This would make the fenders cover the back tires
They tires stick out past the fenders about 1.5" now
Also........
If a guy is a good body man (I don't have the knack..)
I would "skinny up" the front fenders
They are about 4" past the front tires
Those 2 things would really turn it into more of a show truck quality build
I have named it "BABE"
After Paul Bunyon's blue ox .....
