who makes the best a/c

thinking about installing a/c in my uni, who makes the best kit? Pictures are always welcome! I don't think a 3000 mile road trip is possible without air

Classic air makes one especially for our trucks. Do not pass go, go directly to them and buy it. I've heard of guys who have installed it in one weekend.. I have vintage air one that has delayed my truck 4 years so far. One of the stupidest things I have done so far, and that is saying a lot.
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

my other thought is to install the unit under or behind the seat and run the lines under the floor just to keep the dash area cleaner, but I sure like the classic air setup, good price also.

Mine has a Vintage Air. Works great, was in it when I got it so don't know how bad the install was, looks pretty straight forward. Think the trick is getting the correct mount for the compressor. Also depends on what style you like for the interior.

I have a dealer installed ac that was in the truck when I bought it.
I sent it to classic auto air and they rebuilt it.
It has worked perfectly for three years.
If it cain't be fixed with a sledge hammer it must be an electrical problem!

I agree with JC. I installed mine in a quick time. The mounting holes were already existing in the truck. There were a couple of self taping screws but those are easy. I didn't have to fab anything to get it installed. :)

Here are a few pics of the unit installed. If you want more just send me a PM.. :)

that classic air may be easy to install but it looks like your dash has a horrible case of hemroids.

We are a Vintage Air dealer and I can't see a Vintage Air install on anything delaying a project 4 days much less 4 years. The only car that's a pain for their kit if the vette kits and those are just a pain all around.

Maybe I should take our some of our mock up units home and see what hides and looks the best for future reference.

My plan is if I do run a/c in mine I will do everything I can to hide as much as I can of the unit and probably cut/blend vents in the dash somewhere for flow. i'd rather be hot than my dash look like it has hems...ken...

I like the early Mustang style reproductions - plan to use the under dash unit with the rest of the gear from my 04cv donor...

Had to chime in on this...

But that kit looks pretty good to me... And last time I check Vintage Air doesn't list a surefit kit for the 61-66 F100's..

Nobday want to make universal kit work when they can have a kit that bolts right in....

Oh by the way thanks for picking on my follow friends setup... :nono:

the classic air kit blends in nicely and leaves a little more leg room for the person sitting in the middle, I might cut the vents into the dash and really make it look custom. Not sure why some people feel the need to bash to express an opinion , we can find better ways of stating things :boxing:

not "picking on" his set up but just being honest. that 60% exposed unit just don't look all that nice installed to me. nothing a half decent interior guy couldn't make panels to cover and it look better but i'd shoot for a more hidden solution. i'll go as far as to say I like the under dash unit linked above better and that's saying a lot because I usually don't care for those much, but at least it's sort of period correct for the truck...

Sure Fit kits are not as holy as they may seem. and I can tell you VA has sold enough of the universals for these trucks they could tell you exactly what to get without batting an eye. Hell one of their trucks was a slick years ago. I think it may even be in the new catalog still.

I thought it was on here but may have been on ford-trucks that someone used a rear mount a/c from a conversion van and it came out pretty damn nice and came from a vehicle headed to scrap so the cost was nill. I've considered looking at that or an evap unit from a newer compact car.

But yeah we are an high volume Vintage Air dealer and I can tell you while the Sure Fit systems are nice they aren't the only solution. Esp if you're picky like me    .

For anyone interested in Vintage Stuff I can offer pretty much the lowest prices around. If it helps answer any questions I will go ahead and call them and get the full break down on the best set up for these trucks later today(when they open)...Ken....

For what it's worth, if the Classic Auto Air setup is being used with the original style black firewall cover, the unit itself will blend in under the dash and won't be any more visible than the original heater. As for the vents, the vent housings could easily be sprayed or vinyl covered to blend with the dash colors or seat colors and look more like they belong on the truck and less like an add-on. Maybe the control knobs could also be replaced with some "Slick-style" knobs for more of a factory look.

Sure, the hidden, custom look is cool but you're probably going to completely lose the glove box to accomplish it. For those who don't want to do a lot of custom fabrication, the clean bolt-in setup is a good way to go.

I have vingate air - mini slimline 16 cool only. Works well and is 10 years old. Works good with buckets seats. Also check southern air products they are cheaper price than vingate air . :2cents:
