I found the weakest link on my slick

Post by Hoofbeat Racer »

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I currently have my entire drivetrain out of my Ranger for inspection and upgrading and found this the other night. For some reason my buddy and I just laughed and drank a few beers. It helps pass the winter blues as our short summer approaches ever so slowly

Stock 76 31 spline axles. To be replaced by Strange 35 spline. Whodathunk??

Mark, I believe if you were to just swap the axles side to side, they would straighten right up!
I'm actually somewhat amazed that the stock axles, even 31 spline, held up just for that one week in KC!

yes I am sure swapping them side to side would be just dandy!!!

KC was mild, all I did was spin tires. Not stress on nothing doing that. I am impressed with the abuse they did handle though, pretty sure after I swapped in the 3.70s in the fall did them in. I dropped my 60fts by a tenth then and was hooking hard. Running 30" drag slicks next year and 4.11s. Gonna be launching a ton harder too. Convertor is on its way back from Cali as we speak and trans should be finished in a few weeks. Whatever it had for street manners will be long gone this summer.

We just put 4.11's in Dale's truck; he already has "ultra-high spline count" Strange axles and T-loc, plus a hell of a set of old school traction bars.
I'm getting anxious, as is he! Just need to get some good weather to finish up a little paint work and hang components. I'm trying my best to talk him into SS6!Tthat Gear Vendors needs the chance to prove it's worth

HUH and here I am thinking it was the nut holding on to the steering wheel!...... :P

Pauls idea does have it`s merits, or you could just put it into reverse and plant it!
Honey, If I say I`ll fix something I will, there`s no need to remind me every 6 months!!

Worst thing I could see occurring is that you might end up with a pre-shortened axle or two; or they might hold just long enough to develop a pre-shortened truck :burp:
