Just maybe...

Just found out from my wife, that her boss is on vacation the last 2 weeks of August. Which means it will be a lot easier for her to take some time off. I am self employed. My wife suggested maybe a train trip to Slick Stock, or a road trip! Hopefully.....
The road trip would not be in the 65, would need a least a year to make drivable, maybe for SS 7!

That would be great! Still a lot of fun to be had even without your slick there.

I`ve never taken mine to Slick Stock, that way you can watch everyone else detail their trucks and you can just goof around !

Roughly priced a train ticket. 1 round trip ticket: from Portland, Oregon to Osceola, Iowa in coach is about $250!
About 57 hours one way, with a stop in Sacramento
At least Osceola is only 1 hour south of Altoona.

You get to Osceola, give me a call and I'll get you to Altoona! Take a blanket on the train, they are always cold.

Thanks Steve, I may take you up on that offer!

Consider riding it on to Ottumwa. I only live 17 miles south of Ottumwa. Ottumwa is only 75 more miles for you!

I've been to the train station in Ottumwa several times, never been to Osceola's but we can find it!
Hope it all works out for you 2, think you would have a good time. Your butt may take a couple days to wake up after that long of a train ride!

Steve, Train station in Oceola is right on highway 69 on the north side of town. If Steve cant make it let us know and somebody will meet you. Might be kinda cool for a Slick caravan to show up and haul you guys to Altoona

I would keep in mind that sometimes the trains have ISSUES ... My folks took it one time and there was a 12 hour stop due to some track problem or maybe a crash at a crossing ahead ...
That being said the train ride itself should be quite a cool deal.

Thinking about the pros and cons. The train ride would take about 3 day to get there and 3 days back. The cost of the train ticket plus the cost of the food while on the train is almost the same cost as a plain ticket. Probably would make more cents to fly and only loose 1 day for traveling, instead of 6 days.

Sounds like a plan to me Simon, and Lyman knows where the airport is!

If Dean picks you up at the airport dont look at the speedometer on the way back to the hotel, ask Lymann why.

Dianne was talking about some friends that took the train to one of the coasts (can't remember east or west, a lot of the conversation sounded like blah, blah, blah, blah from her side of the car) and after all the delays out, and expenses along the way because of all the time, found plane tickets back that were cheaper than the train. They flew home. Shop for tickets now and you could save some serious money.
