I had big plans to head out to the Portland Swap Meet, hook up with Cooter, enjoy a beverage and a stroll around the many cool booths of vehicular treasures, and perhaps find a motor to replace my rod-knocking 240. Instead, all manner of shenanigans broke loose at work and I wound up on an unexpected trip to Central Oregon, where I remained Thursday, Friday and Saturday. No meet for me...
I texted Cooter, passed on my regards, asked him to keep his eyes peeled for inliners, and bent to the tasks at hand--namely getting 120,000 pounds of freight routed and delivered.
During my final bleary Saturday morning, he texted to say he'd ran into a trusted friend who had a clean, low-mile 240 right here in Portland, where I live.
And this morning, I limped my '66 out and picked it up, for $125!
Cooter, you're the man! Many, many thanks! Hopefully meet you in person next year.
