Glove box (Door) VIN data plate

The door VIN/data plate is missing from the '62 I bought last weekend (Driver's door was apparently replaced and tag no retained). I see that Marti Autoworks can make me a repo but since I don't have the original, I don't know what the codes should be. It doesn't look like they have that info(based on VIN) for this range of year/model.

Is anyone aware of another source to get that info based on the VIN?

Pretty sure the vin tag on a '62 is located on the glove box door. [mine is]

My '62 uni is on the glove box door, also.

Oh - i'll look again but i'm pretty sure I checked there before too (wasn't sure which year they changed - my '63 has it on the door). This is the one with the chrome glove box door so it may have been removed when that was done or something....

F7 -
I'm not seeing the answer in your referenced topics (but I could have missed it). I did see the links to Marti and another repo plate manuf but my understanding is that they don't have the info associated with each VIN so they need a picture or pencil rubbing of the original to duplicate it. My title matches the frame VIN so I'm not concerned about that. But the warranty plate is missing and although that may not be the 'legal' VIN, it is what many DMVs and insurance agents look for to ID the vehicle. So I'd like to get a repo for it. But without the original to duplicate, I don't know what codes should be on it other than the VIN #.

I guess I could just make it all up but would prefer to be accurate....

Not too hard to determine if you have a fair idea of what engine, trans, color, etc. was original. Sources such as http://home.earthlink.net/~threynolds2/ ... s6166.html can help you determine what represents what.. Wheelbase is easy, body code is easily determined; the rear axle ratio might be a little challenging without an axle tag, but it also can be determined. As for me, if it were not original, I would just list the known codes for the present setup. The VIN CAN be deciphered for original engine and place of manufacture, as well as series designation.

Toyz - Good point! Original engine/tran are long gone but I wasn't thinking about the fact that the VIN tells me the engine. Will have to look at the rear to see if it looks like the gears have been changed somewhere along the way. I know the original color based on the inside of the firewall. And I guess I can also probably be fairly confident on the tran based on the column/floor. So I should be able to figure most of it out.

It definitely won't be a stock rebuild so you make some good points - i'll figure out what I can and make educated guesses on the rest....

Thanks

IIRC they (they) will make one from the info you provide. They prefer to have a rubbing, photo etc, for obvious reasons, but... If there's a question, you can always take a pic of your frame vin and send it to them (and maybe copy of title?)

I guess now I need to find a reference with the codes so I know what to use for each space.......

The reference I posted above should have all you need. If there's something not listed there, LMK and I'll look it up.

Toyz,
I spaced off that you had listed that link. But i'll probably need some additional assistance when I dig into it a big more.

Fore example for the body type codes they list a 'Flushside' for 61-63. Is that specific to the unibody?? I can't say I've ever heard that term before.

Thanks

The "Flushside" is what we around here generally refer to as a "wrongbed". "66" refers to the uni, "83" is the Flareside, and "99" can be either the "wrongbed" styleside or the later Styleside.
There are some discrepancies source to source; I like the Didgey because it comes closest to mirroring the Ford-sanctioned sources such as the Autolite parts manuals.
