I have made my own harness for pretty much everything on my truck except the cowl, and I have a secondary harness under the dash that handles a lot of its functions.

You forgot a few vital functions, but yeah, it's dead simple. IMO there is an advantage to following the oem color code. I cheat on the rear body harnesses by purchasing a readily available six wire harness designed for trailers. It provides all need functions at the rear. I prefer to use the Weatherpack type connectors to give dependable service and a clean look.

I made a wiring harness from scratch for my Jeep, pretty simple, but by the time you buy all of the wire, connectors, and the little things that make up a harness, I think it would be cheaper to just buy a universal harness kit. Unless you can get all of the materials needed at wholesaler pricing. :2cents:

Woodstock circuit works in Oregon makes an awesome fuse panel with connection block and the rest of the wiring I run. It takes a lot of hours to wire a truck and with all the kits available there are advantages to buying a good harness also.
