Question?

Has anyone tried to make there own wiring harness from scratch?

it cant be that hard there is just lights, horn, ignition, heater and radio

I have made my own harness for pretty much everything on my truck except the cowl, and I have a secondary harness under the dash that handles a lot of its functions.

You forgot a few vital functions, but yeah, it's dead simple. IMO there is an advantage to following the oem color code. I cheat on the rear body harnesses by purchasing a readily available six wire harness designed for trailers. It provides all need functions at the rear. I prefer to use the Weatherpack type connectors to give dependable service and a clean look.

I made a wiring harness from scratch for my Jeep, pretty simple, but by the time you buy all of the wire, connectors, and the little things that make up a harness, I think it would be cheaper to just buy a universal harness kit. Unless you can get all of the materials needed at wholesaler pricing.

Woodstock circuit works in Oregon makes an awesome fuse panel with connection block and the rest of the wiring I run. It takes a lot of hours to wire a truck and with all the kits available there are advantages to buying a good harness also.
