Hi, I am looking for ideals for seat for my 1964 slick. I would like to put some late model seats in my truck buckets with a console or a bench seat with a console. I would like to get some ideals so I can go to the local bone yards and do some shopping. :help:

Hi back seat take away room between the steering wheel & the back of cab. A common seat swap is the 65/66 mustang buckets as Ford used them in the Ranger package.

Toyota MR2 seats work pretty well. As is, they will look really out of place, but that is something a good upholsterer can fix. They are very similar in terms of space required and the general profile to the stock bench seat. I was using them as garage work seats for a while. I'm sure they are not the most comfortable you can get but by comparison to the stock seat, my truck felt bran new and was so much more enjoyable with that change alone. Probably the best change I've made in terms of enjoyability. I didn't find that they took away any room, but I'm also only 5'8" and 135lbs. I think I got them from an '86 MR2.

I made a bracket that uses the stock bench seat mounting points so they are truly bolt in. I'll also use this bracket for mounting a center console eventually.

I used 40/20/40 seats out of a 2011 dodge truck I found fairly cheap on ebay .
Drivers side is power, head rests are removable, they appear to be brand new.
You have to remove the in cab fuel tank unless you are of minimal stature, and make up a rack like Charlie did, but they fit and feel great.
After doing a search I see they went way up in price to 775. but best offer may get you a much better deal. I bought the two tone ones seen on my build thread.

i went to pick up the jag donor suspension for my neighbors '52 f1 a coupla weeks ago. i had bought the jag bits for my '62 from the same guy and we bought 1 front and 3 rears on this trip. i asked if he had a pair of the xjs buckets and ended up getting a FREE set hahaha. they were in his side building and had mildew on them but they'll get recovered anyhow. Look similar to a 60s mustang bucket but have a small headrest which i'll probably delete when they get recovered. a little thinner than the mustangs and the stock mounts are only about an inch thick so i'll have to build stands/mounts but i'm still gonna keep those fairly short. i'm 6'1" with short legs for someone my height so dropping down a coupla inches from the stock bench bottom height should work out great. oh and they were free and that fits into my broke and using whats there moto hahaha....ken....

I put seats from an 01 F150 extended cab in my truck. I took the headrests off them. The seat backs are too thick, they push you too far forward in the seat and to close to the steering wheel. I wouldn't recommend these seats. They work for me because I'm not very big.
I would recommend the 40/20/40 seat from a mid 90's truck. The backs are pretty thin on them and will give you more room than the 01 seats. You probably would want to remove the headrests so they don't hit the rear window. I might change mine over someday to that seat for the extra room.

The Jag seats should also work well. We were going to use the Jag seats in Nick's truck but we found a set of Mustang buckets and sold the Jag seats for what he paid for the Mustang seats. Then we got the brackets from Bill to mount them so it was an easy install.

kstone,
you guys used a xj6 donor i think. did the front buckets in it look kinda like a mustang bucket with a small headrest? i think the xj6 and xjs are different but not sure. without the headrest and with these blocked up about 4-5" the top of the seat is right at the bottom of the window. should be about right i think...ken...

I used the low back Speedway seats in my uni.

Mounted them on some of Bill's Ranger brackets with a little bit of modification to the seat adjusters. They sit nice, have a little more padding than the seats in my '66.

I have also used the stock '61 seat in my '57 with an upholstery kit on it with a little extra foam padding where you sit and they are comfortable. I did a little work on mine to get the seat back to lean back a bit more so I could pull the seat forward a notch or two and have the seatback lean back against the window on my '57 and it made it more comfortable.

I never put the Jag seats in the truck but they definitely are different than the Mustang seats. I just thought about this, the Jag seat backs don't fold forward. I don't know if that would be important or not, but it would be to me. I always have the upholsterer put pouches on the backs of the seats. The headrest on the Jag XJ6 seat could probably be left in place, they aren't very big so they wouldn't be offensive in the back window. I think that they would look fine in these trucks. We found the Mustang seats, so we got rid of the Jag seats before we ever tried to mount them.

xjs seats are deff different from xj6 seats then. the xjs being a 2dr these do fold forward. they may also have the smaller/lower profile due to coming from a 2dr sport coupe also.

i'll have to pull them out in the sun and snap a pic next time i'm messing around in the garage. i think alot of folks here may like them.

i like the tbird seats also. theres a local c'list ad i was about to hit up before i was given the jag seats. guy has 64-65 tbird fronts or mustangs for $100 for either pair. i was gonna at least pic up the tbirds as they are one of my favorite seats period. i did tbird buckets and the wraparound rear opera seat in my 64 buick wildcat 15 years ago. the falcon center console is a great fit also but damn if those aren't getting pricey....

We used a 94' f150 bench in my son's 64 which turned out pretty decent. It has high back on driver & passenger position. We redrilled the seat to use the original 64' seat mount and adapted the seat position bar to fit. It fits my 6' son well but less room than I prefer at 6'2", but I think that is inevitable without relocating the gas tank & original column. A major reason we used it was he needed one & we got it for the right price of $40.
