Post by Nathan390 »

Hello peeps,

I purchased a 1965 Slick F100 4*4.

School bus yellow (chrome yellow) and white.

Its a 65 wrong bed as someone else here called them.

352 its been replaced with a 360 w/ 390 heads or I was told. Dont care if its not true.
4 speed granny low.. fun for climbing the drive way.

Divorced transfer case

Closed knuckle warn old school hubs. 62,000 miles..

I'll post pictures if I can get it to work.

Hope to learn lots

I've seen them listed somewhere. Npd or Mac's not cheap at $59.99 a piece.

How do you install them (yep I asked a how to question w/o looking it up)
I found a 63 @ a wrecking yard it had one good one. Didnt come prepared to remove.

i never saw them for sale, been a while since i looked.
price is not out of the question provided they are USA made, otherwise i would not bother buying.
we have a member who sells replacement metal, as well as other new parts, i only buy from him.
i have a wire feed welder so installing is not an issue.

"1957-66 Ford “Styleside” Bed End Cap Patch Panel: Having owned our fair share of 1957-66 Ford F-Series ( F-100, F250, F350) “styleside” pick-ups, we saw an immediate need for a production replacement panel for the bed end caps below the taillight. Produced by Kustom Innovations, NES&C is the exclusive seller of these long awaited replacement panels. Stamped in the USA on 16g steel and finished in black powder coat. These panels are produced to OE Ford factory specs. Because of the symmetrical design of the bed these panels fit the left or right side, Retailing at $99.95 each."

the c-note each is a bit steep but if your the only one making and selling them and they are USA ...

Got bored one afternoon and repainted the hood emblem.
Figured out my heater problem, some either installed the heater control valve in backwards or its the wrong one. Knob has to be pulled out to close the valve.. now the truck isn't so miserable to drive in the 90* weather we have.

Found some nicer wheels to install... as I'm not a fan of the wagon wheels..
Ordered and installed a cool saddle blanket seat cover... its a farm truck.. (not that I live on a farm, golf course actually) so it needed one.

Still a blast to drive.. if I ever get to drive it... the wife always has it. :cussing:

Also learned more about its history with the help of Vic (hiboy63) and his son John.
I found either the original owner or a guy that bought it in 1972.. he owned it till 2012 when vic and John looked at it. The guy I bought it from ended up purchasing it.

Still not sure why the original engine was replaced.. or maybe it wasn't.. I was told it was.. I really don't care.. it runs and drives.

I do know that it had some aftermarket seat in it.. that Was replaced by my Po who put a 68 bench in it. If I check the engine numbers I'm guessing its a 68 block too.

I've been searching to see if there was a thread here on the truck, like there is for a lot of craigslist postings..

Well after talking to some people who are familiar with my truck, guess it has some local history.

Vic (hiboy63)'s son John, looked at the truck in 2012 when it was being sold in Troy, Id.

The truck was owned by a Mr. And Mrs. Flomer, they either moved to Moscow, Id in 1972 or bought the truck in 1972. As that's the earliest I can find the truck being titled.

Mr. Flomer worked for the Moscow, Id school district as transportation director. Story goes he had the truck painted with the school district's resources.. the truck could have been in an accident prior to the repairs I don't know, but I've been told I have the wrong fenders on the truck. 36" openings otherwise referred to the small openings. I do know that the hood was once red, and either the driver's door has been replaced or the passenger door has. I'm guessing driver's as I'm missing the data plate.

Anyways, back on track now. Mr. Flomer repaired the truck and repainted it school bus yellow and added the white to it. Not sure what color white it is, guessing Wimbledon white..

I'm also guessing that's when the international mirrors were added.. possibly school bus mirrors?

Mr. Flomer passed and the truck was sold by his ex wife to a guy in Troy, Id.
Guy in Troy just flipped it, maybe took the stainless 66 grill off it. This is where John and Vic looked at it. John sent me pictures of it from July 2012. It was never titled by the Troy, Id guy.

The truck was bought by the guy I bought it from, and brought to Colbert\Mead, Wa he owned it about 2 years. He took off a painted 66 grill and added a 65 stainless grill. He removed the aftermarket seats and added a 68 bench seat. He also pulled the non-running 352 and replaced it with a 360.

So there's Short bus's story, it might not be correct, but its an interesting story. I'm guessing we are the 3rd or 4th legal owners. 4th or 5th physical owners.

My plans are to clean it up and fix things as needed. It will be repainted school bus yellow and white, when the time comes.
I'll even keep the IH mirrors..
