Slick 60's

I'm having a time making a decision on a drive train for my '66 F250 if I had a better idea what it's weight is it might help. I'm really wanting to go with a AOD. My choice is down to carburated 351W AOD. Complete 5.0 out of '89 Lincoln LSC, that I need a computer for. Or a FE and suffer through the milage. I've put 295K miles on a '96 F150 SW it's weight is close to 4,750 lbs has fuel injected 302 with EAOD it will still knock out 20 MPG on the interstate. What is that F250's weight? Thanks!

I cant answer your question but id go 351w

I'm not positive but I think my F250 tag says 4800 pounds. It came with a 240 I6

If you're close to a landfill just drive up onto their scales,most will tell you weight.

Take 1500# off of your gvw, should be close

i think thats a lot more than it actual weight.

im guessing its in the 4K-4500 range.

I'd go with the 351 & AOD. I've got a 92 F150 with a 302 , and a 92 Bronco with a 351. The mileage difference between both vehicles is 1 mpg highway and the power on the 351 is so much more with the 351. I know, our Model A with the 351 AOD combo is a lot lighter than your package, but it will sure get your attention.

Greybeard, my 66 1/2 ton flareside weighs in at about 3500 lbs. I'm sure your 250 weighs a little more than that. Hope this helps a little.

frame is slightly thicker,more springs + thicker ,d60 rear vs. 9" tires,wheels and drums also larger, plus difference in engine-trans weights
im going to say the 250 is 500+ lbs over the 100.

i can also tell you a 5600 gvwr 66 f100 4x4 can scale 7420 with lots of scrap iron in the bed.
thats almost 3K lbs giving a 4400 lb empty.

MY 65 F100 4*4 registration has a scale weight of 6250 lbs and a licensed weight of 10,000 lbs

Not sure where the DMV got the scale weight from.. licensed weight can be whatever I want to pay for.

I can drive it to a state scale house on Monday and get an actual weight if anyone really cares.

Yesterday I did quite bit of windshield time started thinking about your comments. I really want to do the Windsor. Fell back on my training with a tech rep when I was working for Fram /Autolite, in a seminar he had to explain to a customer why boats required cooler plugs than a car with same engine. "Because boat motors operate under constant high torque loads"
That put my mind to thinking Windsors were the motor of choice through the 70s & most of the 80s for "high end" inboard prop driven ski boats. Master Craft, Ski Nautique, Malibu, Tige ETC ETC.
The weight issue, I guessed the '66 at 4,700 lbs. In the same ball park as everybody who reponded. We have a Gen One '95 Lighning, they're heavier than you would think, it's a trailer pulling outfit, on several ocasions I've pulled a 801 Ford with a Brush Hog attached on a car trailer with a heavy Box Blade in the bed. That pickup doesn't seem to know any limit. I know my rebuilt Windsor won't preform like the Lightning's 351 but I believe that's the way I'm going.

The weight issue, I guessed the '66 at 4,700 lbs. In the same ball park as everybody who reponded. We have a Gen One '95 Lighning, they're heavier than you would think, it's a trailer pulling outfit, on several ocasions I've pulled a 801 Ford with a Brush Hog attached on a car trailer with a heavy Box Blade in the bed. That pickup doesn't seem to know any limit. I know my rebuilt Windsor won't preform like the Lightning's 351 but I believe that's the way I'm going.[/quote]
The F250 Camper Special weighs in at ~4350, Non CS should be around 4300 curb weight. My Gen I L was a heavy pig at around 4600. There was a lot of room for improvement on the L engine, so, increased performance in relation to the Gen I is certainly available, especially with a roller block, and maybe some GT40 or aftermarket heads.

Maybe we can discuss this at Ole Marias Paul? I really want to do a 351W OD all Ford. Maybe AOD maybe ZF5. I've got about 90 days to sort it out.

My '66 Merc 250 cs weighed 4180 on a commercial scale, without my fat self or much gas. No ps/pb/ac or spare and jack on that day. GVW of 7500 would allow a legal load of almost 3500 which is way more than modern trucks allow.
