Things I saw at Slick Stock - 6

It was a fun week. Here's a few things that I experienced and saw, how about you.....

an active 2nd shift
slot car races
rain, heat, humidity
Santa Clause
s'mores
heard a joke, or 200
Santa Clause racing slot cars
hot apple pie traded for hippie juice and a comparison taste testing taking place
valve cover races
very patient, understanding, forgiving wives and girlfriends (never with the same man that I knew of)
suits of armour, chain mail and a nervous desk clerk
big block turbo motor doing a nice burnout
a little boy racing slot cars with a smile so big his face had to hurt the next morning
BBQ
Santa Clause racing valve covers
crew cab slick with a working transmission!
a big boy with a smile so big his face had to hurt
cowboy poetry
running chop top
food, lots of food
a psycho tricycle
no major breakdowns (nerves or vehicles)
wine in the lobby (you can't drink in the lobby, remember that)
Iowa Speedway from on the track
ice cream
"Cas Truck" going around Iowa Speedway
a large pedal car
Sprint Car Museum
top hats (3 this time)
an Australian, a Canadian, a Kansan and an Iowan were driving down the road, not the start of a joke, just 4 guys headed someplace
pickups, all colors, options, engines and styles
old men with smiles so big on their (my) face it had to hurt the next morning
"Eventually" going around Iowa Speedway
slick ramp truck with a slick passenger
disappearing chop top
14 slicks winding thru the Iowa countryside leaving a wake of pointing and smiling "citizens" along the sides of the roads
casino (no big winners I heard of)
shiny paint, dull paint, no paint
bidding wars (a penny at a time, really?)
Gatorade, Mason jars and small glass jugs
guys swarming a new arrival
cops in the parking lot several times and nobody "assuming the position"
children laughing, ranging from a few months old to.....well lets just say some people had a lot of "experience with life"

A great time was had by all, our hosts Darrell and Robyn were great and worked tirelessly every day, the motel was happy, the cops were happy, saw old friends and made new ones, stole some ideas for my truck, shared some I knew of and got home tired so we must have done it right! Thanks everyone for the fun!

Couldn't agree more!!! Except one person did assume the position - voluntarily if I remember correctly, but not sure why? (I think there are photos to confirm)

Dean & I got to see something that nobody else did....
And that was a loaded beer cooler getting dumped at the
"Stop-light drags"
Luckily no beer was injured ...... " save the beer "

I was behind that beer drop. When he started his lap around the Iowa Speedway they stopped or group in turn 3. The pace car passed me and drove right up to Jerry and stopped. He had to run around and re-shut the passenger's door. I guess they heard about dumping coolers in the middle of the street and didn't want him to drop Maddie (spelling anyone?) in the middle of the racetrack. News travels fast.

saw many friends i missed in 2012
met several new ones
rode in a nascar slick on a real racetrack
drove the same slick as last time i was in iowa, from the same beginning spot to the same ending one
saw the emptying of many beers and gatorade containers
had a solution in case anyone lost their keys
heard some of the funniest stories and strangest jokes in a very long time
a drunken leprechaun, a farmer who should have his own comedy show, some older members who give hope that age is not a barrier to having fun with trucks, some younger who give hope that this continues on in the future, and a lot of wives who support us and put up with us in our slick habit.
it was once again a very excellent event.
missed two really great people - John and Lesley
drank a few for him and prayed for her

if you did not attend for the sole reason of not bringing a slick then i think you missed something really great for a reason that is meaningless

so enjoy the memories of the past slickstocks as we look forward to 2016.

Yes, I agree with Brian completely, missing SS for not having a Slick you can drive to it is denying yourself a fabulous time. This was my fourth consecutive Slick Stock without a Slick, and there are at least two or three folks I know who are right there with me or even have been to all six without a Slick. It didn't slow them down a bit, and they had as much fun as the rest of us. I know I did.
I saw that ''Beer Drop'' at the traffic light too riding with Mike in his Uni. Never seen a couple of guys move so fast to rescue their little bubbly friends from certain death on the highway.
That Crewcab with the working transmission saved my bacon on the way home too. Thanks again to Chris and Jenny for that.
I think we all missed seeing John and Lesley since they have been at all five up until this one. They have been a big part of Slick Stock from the beginning. Prayers are still going out to them everyday.
Got to visit with the Iceman more this time than I ever have before. Enjoyed his company very much and hope to see him in Salina in two years.
Thanks to Lance for bringing the Slotcar track out. That was a lot of fun racing those. Also for taking us over to Jim's and racing on his track. Both were great times.
Had a lot more Valvecover racers this year. Just barely got edged out by Norris (Dad's Truk) this time with the ''Tank''. Time to upgrade that thing for more speed.
Thanks to Mike and Aaron for the rides in their trucks.
A huge THANK YOU to Darrell and Robbin for all the work they did to host SS 6.
I am looking forward to SS 7 in Salina in 2016. And as time goes it will be here before you know it. And to all my Slick friends, take care of yourselves so we can all see each other again in two years. See you then. TR

i saw many familiar faces.
some new ones.
many great trucks.
new and old.
a slick hauling a slick.
miles of smiles.
never a negative moment.
four days of positive and creative moments.
step out of line giving.
great spirits.
great attitudes.
great trucks.
great people.
GREAT PEOPLE!
you don't need a truck to attend. just attend. i would ride my bicycle to the next one if i had to.
hell, i would drive a chevy, right dean?

Hey Ezer......

You sure about that bike thing. I seem to recall another recent post from you about it being uphill the whole way to Salina!!!.. Ha ha!!

JK....

I can add another testament to having a good time without having my slick there. Every morning when I get to work since then, I still keep saying....... "I want to go back to SS" !!!
