Slick 60's

I want to replace the low oil idiot light in my 64 F100 with the Bronco oil pressure gauge.

I looked at a couple threads.

Do I just swap in the gauge for the light and swap the light sending unit for the gauge sending unit, or is there more wiring involved?

You have to have the bronco style round speedo unit. The gauge will not fit the standard cluster housing. You also need the gauge sending unit. If you buy the Bronco cluster, it will come with the amp gauge as well.
You can keep the idiot lights as well if you get creative by drilling the upper third of the gauge face with a small drill and shielding the idiot lights same as the turn signals. You also have to run two sending units teed off the block for the oil, and do the split wiring for the amp gauge.

I see, so to do it right I need the Bronco housing.

If I run across a housing I will do the swap, otherwise I will keep what I have for now.

I tried this on my '64. I purchased the correct sending unit and swapped my speedo into the big truck cluster. I never could get that thing to work right, but the Ammeter works great. My voltage regulator was ok, because my other gauges worked fine. I checked and rechecked my wiring and bought another sending unit for the gauge in case the first one was bad, so I am pretty sure my gauge was bad. I'm not sure how one could test a gauge to see if it was bad, but mine would peg then slowly bleed off to nothing.

Does anyone repair these things? I ended up buying a Stewart Warner Greenline OP gauge and left the factory gauge in the cluster for the "cool" factor.

Where did you find the throttle cable? Ive been looking for one.

Is your sending unit about inch and a half round by two inches?
or is it about 3/4 by about One inch? the larger is the one you need.

The throttle cable has been on the truck ever since I can remember. It makes a nice cruise control when I need to stretch my leg!
