Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
Still driving the truck...even with a small radiator leak. Short local trips...the truck is a blast to drive and the "thumbs-up" do not hurt either. Radiator is on the way. I wanted to start stripping the paint off of the hood yesterday and begin getting it in primer, but yard work took priority. Today it is raining (which we sorely need), so maybe tomorrow or Thursday I can begin working on the hood and top of the cab. I still want to get this thing into one color, even if it is primer before the Spring cruise-ins begin....
Stay tuned....

Rain...no progress. I did take the gauge cluster out of the dash to get to some wiring. I thought that I had a broken wire going to the heater control. Turned out the fuse was just bad It looked ok, but I guess it was broken inside at one end. Anyway I wanted to take the gauge panel out and repaint it...

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
My new radiator came today....and it is the wrong one. It will fit, etc, etc, but the outlet at the bottom is on the wrong side This is the radiator configured for a 6 cylinder engine. Aggravated to no end....

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
As I mentioned I repainted my gauge panel...here's a before pic, haven't taken an after pic yet. Also a pic of the new radiator that I am sending back tomorrow. I've ordered another one just like it, but with the outlet at the bottom on the correct side.
Hopefully the weather will cooperate this week and I can sand and prime the hood and top of the cab...stay tuned....

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
Visitors and some rain yesterday caused the prevention of mechanical or other activity upon said vehicle. When your daughter, son-in-law and your first granddaughter come to visit....you stop and spend time with them. Today looks to be a beautiful day and I am caught up with all other things. Let the sanding begin...I hope to at least have the hood in primer by end of day....we'll see....pics to follow.

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
Gave up on the hood for today and moved to the back of the cab. It looked worse. Sprayed some primer on the hood and stripped the back of the cab to the metal and shot some rattle can primer on it.

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
New radiator going in tomorrow. It is not a direct replacement, but is for the '68-74 F-100 and will work. The hood is about 1/2 stripped and I want to finish getting this thing into primer this week. The first cruise-in of the season is coming up in about 3 weeks I need to get on the ball....

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
Well it was a productive couple of days. Installed the radiator yesterday without much ado. Today the hood got some love. It was slow and messy... but it always is. Shot some primer as it was getting dark. I still have to finish it....tomorrow maybe...if it doesn't rain.
New aluminum radiator...
Still have to finish sanding the cowl area...
I still have the top to sand and prime and the top of the passenger door. Getting close, cruise-in's here I come...
Stay tuned....

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
It's slow going but I managed to get the drivers side step well finished this evening. I started on the passengers side but was only able to remove about 90% of the paint before it was dark.
Again...here's the step well...
AFTER
Stay tuned...as usual...more to come....

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
Thanks Joe! That's what helps me to keep on keeping on....checking out everyone else's threads. Nothing happening today...ate at Cracker Barrel yesterday and their meatloaf literally made me sick (as in food poisoning or botulism). I've been on the sofa all day long trying to recuperate. It has been a long time since I have been this sick Wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

Busy week but I got some time yesterday to finish priming the front valance and painting the passenger side step well. I still have some areas that need some more bodywork...
Going to a cruise-in today at West Jefferson, NC...hopefully this rain will end at noon time. Stay tuned....

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
Didn't make the cruise-in with the truck because I thought it would be raining...only 3 cars were there I've just been driving and enjoying my truck for the past couple of weeks. I spent yesterday working on the drivers side of the bed some more. It still isn't to my liking or even ready for paint. I didn't even take any pics. I hopefully will get some time to work on it later this week. I really, really want to get some paint on this thing....
Stay tuned....

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
Got some time to work on the drivers side of the bed. I need to block sand it and rework a few other minor places and then shoot some paint. Our grandson has been here for the past week and we have "run amuk." No time for the truck. Hopefully Monday or Tuesday I will get some time to work on it. We have driven it all over the place this past week.....fun....stay tuned...more work...and pics...will commence.
