Looking good

Not much done on the truck lately...been to a few cruise-ins the past few week-ends. It's a beautiful morning here in S.W. Virginia...

I finally got around to detailing and painting under the hood. I went with a 'retro' black and white look.



I have a little bit more to do on the firewall and I want to repaint the inner fenders. I need to do some more body work, a few imperfections here and there...I'm still watching and looking for a bed or bed sides....

looks good! I panted the engine black, but red valve cover. Its a cool combo you got there.

Thanks April. The engine was originally painted red. I left the valve covers red, but they needed repainting....so white it is...

Just curious if you are happy with the mono springs on the front - any regrets on that choice?

Slixtyfive....I love them. No regrets. I also added a sway bar and new shorter gas shocks. The truck rides well and handles great. I am still considering a drop axle from Sid's.

How's the aluminum radiator working for you?

OrangeRcode....I really wanted an O.E.M. radiator for my '64, but I found this one on ebay cheaper than anything out there....actually, I don;t remember exactly how much it was. But to answer your question, my truck NEVER runs hotter than 180 degrees. I have idled it for long periods of time this summer at cruise-ins and it stays right on 180. Works great!

I've been watching everyone else's build threads on here and just cruising around this summer with mine. I had to re-set my pinion angle a few weeks ago to correct a vibration. After that, I still had a vibration in the driveline. It was my front u-joint...turns out that one of the needle bearings had fallen over when I installed it and the bearing pushed the u-joint off center enough to create a vibration. Fixed and done...no more vibration. New king-pins on the way...I've done them before, but still dreading it. Acquired a set of 17" Dodge steelies that I'm going to either 'reverse' or move the centers back in the rim for less back-space and later install on my '64. I'll post pics when I re-work them....

Mounted the front wheels and tires today. Mounted one of the rear tires to the wheel and test fit it before inflating it. I was afraid that the tire would rub the outer fender area with only 2 1/2" back-spacing. I had to run out and get some valve stems for the rear wheels and take care of some 'other stuff' (town is 20 miles away) and so I did not finish installing everything today. Incidentally, the 255/60-17's will fill nicely in the rear and I have one ready to install. I will have to finishing welding the other rear wheel tomorrow and hopefully get the tire mounted and installed on the truck...pics to come. Addendum...I will be looking for a meatier tire for the front...the 215/55-17's do not have enough sidewall to visually stimulate me. I think that they are too short for the truck and I will probably look for a set of 225/60-17's for the front. Ta......

I still have to true up one more wheel and get it cleaned, welded, painted and a tire installed on it.

Steve, the wheels look great on there. What issues did you have with the lugs/center caps? Care to share your method to make them work?

I bought the wrong lug-nuts. They should have been Dorman 611-171.1 lug nuts...I bought something else...I have it all worked out now. It helps to have the part number on stuff like that (at least for me)...lol....Otherwise it was a fairly inexpensive (read cheap) undertaking. The wheels were free (horse trading) the center caps were $29 with free shipping from ebay. and then the lug nuts which are $2.49 each (times 20 = $50) and a can of rustoleum sunrise red. I am purchasing a nice used set of 225/60-17's this evening locally for $25 each...

Grrrrr.....bought the used 225/60-17's for the front and they were a nice set of Bridgestones. Had them mounted today and one had a leak from the sidewall. I am in 'negotiations' with the seller...They were advertised locally on a Facebook Yard-sale page and the couple had about 12-15 sets of tires for sale. If they don't make it right, I am considering a 'warning' post to other buyers about their tires. I hate stuff like this. I am out the cost of installation and balancing of two tires which I can't use. To be fair, they probably didn't know that the tire leaked....anyway.....

Did you get the bad tire situation lined out?

Afraid not...I have the admin of the yard sale page involved...but I am probably going to be out the cost of the tires.
