Hello all. New guy here. Cherry popping post.

I have searched to no avail on here for Y Block to FE swaps. Specifically on a '64. I want to get everything I need so I can swap the engine/trans in a weekend. LMC has an FE crossmember and a C6 crossmember. I figured I would get these and track down an automatic steering column, pedal assembly, and shorten the driveshaft. I dont know if I can convert the manual 3 speed column to auto. What else will I need? Thanks.

Not an expert on this , but I think an auto steering column for a 64 isn't going to be easy to find.

If it was me, I would just use a cable operated floor shift from Lokar or some other company. If you absolutely need a column shift and pedal assemblies. Flashback F100s could help you I think. I believe his name is Tom and he is a member here. His website is http://www.flashbackf100s.com/

The important thing to do is to get the engine set correctly. Your carb should be level when everything is in or you will have fits with it. The steering columns are fun on these since the steering shaft does not separate from the steering box. I agree finding one for an auto tranny might be difficult.

You will also want to check the u-joint angle on the trans. It should be 3-5 degrees downhill to offset the rear end angle so that it will cancel out driveline vibration.

Could I just use a later model column and box? After the engine swap I'll be doing a crown vic swap and would love to use whatever column I already have.

You can use the stock column. I cut the shaft off at the box and use DD universals to attach it to the power rack. I have pictures on my post if you want to look at it.

Looks as though I will be abandoning the big block idea at this time. Since I will be upgrading the brakes with a bigger engine I may as well go along with the crown vic/4.6 setup instead.

If I were to do it again, I would go the crown vic route as well. It takes a lot of the guess work out of the equation.
