Slick 60's

I have read Uncle Skip's article on the mustang gas tank installation in the hints and tips section. Great article for anyone wanting to do this conversion on the truck. My question is...Is it necessary to install anything between the flange of the gas tank and the frame to cushion the tank? I am thinking that it would be alright just bolted straight to the frame. It does not move at all, thus why would it need something to cushion it? My new tank was delivered today and as soon as the nasty weather subsides, I will install it, but was curious about cushioning. Any answers and opinions are much appreciated.

the butyl that comes with a new tank does a nice job of cushioning it. it is similar to tar. just put a bead of that stuff between the tank and frame rails.

If you don't want to use the tar/butyl go to Home Depot flooring dept and grab a few black rubber base moldings, cuts real easy. I've used these for cushioning and also to make the strip between alumn rad and steel support.
