My 66 had the rubber mat screwed in on the edge at the firewall and seat and wondering if it was done at the factory.

By the time I've normally gotten the trucks I've found the screw but nothing but holes in the mats as a general rule. I believe the mats were screwed on to help hold in place. I've found far to many of the screw to believ otherwise.

There is a local junkyard that has a few and will have to look at them and see if they have screws too.

Here's a few shots of the mat in my 66. I've had two slicks and have been around many others and this one is the most original, unmolested slick I've seen in a long time.

And it has no screws in the rubber mat.

These shots are of the top corners of the mat and one of the edge of the mat near the edge of the seat.

When I tore the original mat out of my 65 it had them. 2 at the top of the passenger side, 1 at the top of the driver... None at the seat.

That is not only possible, but probable.

I've come across many examples of such minor variations with Fords manufactured prior to the heavily automated assembly lines.

Just got through installing the windshield in the 65 I have for sale, and looked at the floor covering. It has four screws along the top and some screws in the corner down below the seat. I'm thinking the mats would not lay down right and the screws were added to make the mat lay in place right until it conformed.

on my truck I took a original floor mat out of another truck < no screws > and re-installed in my Mercury < no screws > but put back on the aluminum scuff plates that was there , and then I put over top a Ford Accessory Black Rubber Mat

Since the holes are there I will put screws back in,mine originally did not come with sill plates but I am going to find a set to put in it to help keep the mat from moving around.
