Cowl to hood seal

Which way does the lip go on the cowl to hood seal? I don't recall the piece I took off having a lip on it. New piece came from Steele Rubber.

Should I install it with the nails that came with it, or glue it on with weather stripping cement?

use the nails.
the lip faces the windshield, your keeping water out of the engine.
think of it like a "V" laying on its side, point towards engine

Just to be sure - I'm going to be pounding new holes in the cowl with these nails - they don't need a pilot hole, do they? Seems like it'll take a pretty good rap to get the nails started in the cowl. I'm thinking they can be "set" in the rubber itself, then "driven home" - I'm I thinking right?

Where'd the old holes go? I've seen a number of cowls that were bent up from installing the seal. I'd drill pilots to be safe.

My 64 does not have nail holes where the new seal would mount. The seal mine had was stapled to the cowl in the indentation below where the new seal sits. I am afraid to put the new seal on for the same reason mentioned earlier. Beating the hell out of the cowl and chipping the paint. Pictures of someones would be nice. Maybe I am putting mine on wrong.

Can You Drill Pilot Holes And Use Small Stainless Screws? That's How My New One Went On After I Yanked What Was Left Of That Rotted Rubber And Those Old Nails...

That's what my new seal looks like, Ezer. Except it doesn't have the double lip, just one.

The original holes are still in the cowl, but I am thinking it will be hard to line them up, and maybe they won't hold well.

I think the pilot hole idea may be best, but I'm still tempted to glue it in place first.

When I did mine, I used my original seal as a template to mark nail placement. The new nails held firm in the existing holes with out any problems.

Got the job done! I used Ezer's photo of the low mileage original - thank you, Ezer, very helpful. I drilled small pilot holes and used the nails. I am happy with the results.

Master, is it wise to be so pumped up over new parts applied to ones' old pickup?

Wisdom has nothing to do with it Weedhopper, it is Slickitis......

No Ezer, I feel pretty good about how the seal was put on. The new seal is like your original once I compared them.

Thanks, I think I did better than the factory did, if that's saying anything.....at least the holes are spaced evenly, and in the center of the strip!
