under my bonnet

Post by Alan Mclennan »

Can anyone tell me what the flattened sections with bolt holes are for, on the underside of the front edge of the bonnet/hood.

Alan :?

just at a quick guess, without going out to look:

probably for the rubber bumpers they had on about every car and truck made. Just a bolt with a rubber piece that goes over the head thats adjustable for when the hood closes.

If it starts to rain, they'll tax the splash.
If you want to fish, they'll tax the bass.
If you plant a yard, they'll tax the grass.
If you don't play nice, they'll fine your *$#!

Nah, the rubber bumpers mount on the fenders, pointing up.

I've always just assumed the flattened sections in question were for when the hood was used on a Big Slick application, like an F650 or something. :dontknow:
Geez, now I wanna know too!

that is the correct answer. there are some big slicks with 2 latches ,one on each side.

Thanks Ice, that's what I had assumed through the years. I have to careful with my Slick assumptions though, I get myself in trouble sometimes.

:) Iceman, I accept your answer due to your experience with these trucks, but if they were willing to make all hoods(as you lot call them)with the provision for two latches, how come the grill support doesn`t and does it get cold at your place! .

I'm just assuming here again, but it's a fairly certain assumption, so I'm goin' with it.
It stands to reason that while the bonnets ( neener.gif ) can interchange between standard & big Slicks, the radiator supports cannot. In this pic for example, the radiator opening in this baby is gonna be a lot larger than the one in a F100, not to mention different inner fender attaching points, etc.

Also on this particular hood, I'm betting that some of the other empty holes on our hoods are used to hold that lower rolled under piece to the hood. Man, I wish I could go scope one out in person.

That truck is so cool! 8)
