how do you remove the trim that runs down the side of the truck without doing any damage

There are nuts that hold the trim clips on. Just remove the nuts.

The trim on the bed and hood is pretty easy since the nuts are easily accessed. The door trim nuts are accessed by removing the door panel covers. The gas tank has to be removed to get to the cab corner nuts and the cowl trim nuts are accessed by removing the lower kick panel vent assemblies. I'll be putting mine back on in a few days and its a pain........ Take your time and use penetrating oil when needed.

I see no reason to remove the gas tank. The gas filler and hose on driver's side will need to be removed, but the gas tank should present no problem.

once the hose is out, the corners are easy

all of the trim does not have nuts on the backside, some have the square holders that pop into the holes in the metal, not sure if this is only on the skinny trim (63-64)

AFAIK, only the early models. Hardest ones are the cowl retainers, especially since I'm large and clumsy! They are not that bad if you don't mind some skin abrasions.
