New leaf springs

My new front leaf springs from General Spring in KC arrived today. Two, 6-leaf springs with bushings for $310 shipped to my front door.

My plan is to drop the front end 2-3 inches and the rear end 3-5 inches.

For $200 a shop will reverse the eyes in the new springs.

For free, I could remove a leaf or do this mod on post #12. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/thre ... 00.280413/

I could do a dropped axle from Sids. The axle, kingpins, drop tie rods and shipping run about $500.

I could install the new springs and see what the ride height is, then adjust the rear for a slight rake.

Opinions?

My 64 has a shim on the front axle. I haven't seen this on pics of other straight axle trucks. The shim has the wide end toward the front of the truck. Was this from the factory or a previous owner? Do I retain it or remove it with the new springs?

Keep the shim...it is an important part of your alignment.
