Removing I beam bushings?

I've got a ball joint removal kit and accessory kit with alot of different size attachments. I still can seem to press the bushing out. I've managed to mushroom the side I'm needing to press through. These are oval shape and the kit only contains round drivers which makes it more challenging to get one close to the right size. Any insight or suggestions would be appreciated.

i got the driver's side out drilling out the rubber and using a chisel to get the outer metal part out. Then I froze the new bushing with some axle grease smeared on the outside of it. Pressed it in with my harbor freight ball joint kit. Didn't have the exact size so it chewed up the outside of the bushing a bit. Shouldn't affect the performance of it. Passenger side is waiting til the sun goes down. It's too hot or I'm too old...or both. The second one should go quicker as I know the procedure and just have to make it happen. The first time was the learning side. :D

I got some good input from the Slick page on FB. The forum is dead apparently.

Most are on both these days, hoping that will yield more active members here. It is a lot easier to locate info in the archives here, IMO.

Save yourself some time and hot wrench the rubber bushings. Once burning, it won't take long to push the rubber part out with an old screwdriver . Then colapse the outer shell with air hammer and a pointed bit down one side then the other if needed. Or, hascksaw it until part way through then collapse the side. If using the aftermarket neoprene bushings , you are supposed to leave the outer metal part in the I beam.

Brian, I think what orangercode meant was that the forum was dead for a while last night. I tried to get on a couple of times and kept getting an error code.

I pushed them out on a big vise with a big socket on one side for it to go into and installed the new ones in the vise but I had to persuade them with a big hammer. I have a picture but couldn't find it. Tom

Brian, You're not the only one never to have been on the other site. I guess I just don't get facebook. This site makes much more sense to me. I've ended up on business facebook sites before and a regular web site makes more sense to me

I gave up using the Slicks FB page for one thing or another, and find the information here to be better and easy to locate as Paul said, I do still use FB to keep in touch with all our friends I have met here and other places on the net. this forum is far from dead, just not as busy as it was sadly

X2 on the air hammer to.get it out. You can use your ball joint adapter going in. Use the adapter on the back side with a long bolt and a thick flat washer on front and squeeze it in. I didn't know this site had a Facebook page. I don't have or use FB either, it's time consuming enough keeping up with the 3 forums I am on and my craigslist junk.

Thanks for the input. I got them both in that afternoon. As expected, the 2nd one went easier and looked better when completed.

orangeRcode,

Was the steering/handling issue a HUGE improvement or not so much?

Did you get a front end alignment job after the new bushing install?

These were for my disc brake setup. It's still in progress so I haven't installed them. Will let you know when I get them in.
