F500 Newbie with some questions

Hey guys, Im in Sydney and I picked up what I believe is a '65 F500 (feel free to correct me) earlier this year. I'm mid way through restoring it and looking for the best places to buy things like water pump, gaskets, carby kit, oil & fuel pump, and various parts for the brakes and axles etc... engine is a 292. Hoping I could buy most of what I need over the counter. Also, anywhere I could find door and window seals? Thanks in advanced.

Looks like a pretty solid truck!! Whats your plan?

BTW: Would I be wrong in guessing you work in a body shop?? (I noticed what appears to be tie-down rails for a pull tower in the pic of the truck)

I like you frame rail track system, where are the center supports for unibody cars? I had one of those and really liked it, here they were known as kar grabber what is the brand name there? OH! like the truck too.

Welcome to the show Jarrad, if it says 500 on the side of the bonnet, it is most likely a F500, do you know what it was used for, I know the Brickworks trucks and clay pipe yards used these trucks for their hand deliveries. As far as the parts question I`d say go straight too Mac`s or LMC, just stay under $1,000 so you don`t pay GST ( abbott is going to stuff that up )

Thanks fellas, yeah I own a panel shop here in Sydney. The plan is to restore it and make it a car carrier, and have my signage on the doors. The writing on the bonnet badges has faded away so cant make out the number, and don't know a whole lot about the history of it or what it was used for.

The floor rack can be used for unibodys and chassis vehicles. We focus on restorations, so most of the time it is only used for minor re-alignments or straight pulls, so really its all I need.

I am near Enfield in Sydney I have a F-700, I still have a few bits left over, looks like yours is a 1966 F500 by the grille & the disc wheels were on F500s & 600-700s had cast spider wheels & a wider front axle, yours should have a single speed diff too 600-700s had eaton 2 speeds, it might have had the engine changed or the grill changed having the yblock, they started using the 300 6 cylinder from 1965, if you send me a copy of the ID plate & chassie number I can decode it for you, I have all the Aussie big truck books, most of the cab bits are the same as F100 but the cab mounts are different & not available, I got most of the big stuff & rubbers from the rubber connection in vic they stock dennis carpenter rubbers, some stuff I got from dennis carpenter direct & macs too but I found macs chrome bits, like dash bezels & door handles poor quality, as for water pumps & engine parts, all american auto parts in Ballarat Vic, & we should have some y block bits, my dad builds a few Flathead & yblock engines, theres a guy I know building a 65 F500 down the road from me too & hes modifying it a bit, he should have some original bits hes getting rid of, he is fitting a twin turbo big block Ford & auto & changed the diff etc, I carry my cars on mine too, I build a tilting tray for it, theres some pics on here somewhere

Welcome, another RHD slick!
Boys have already hit the nail on the head with parts suppliers both local and overseas. I echo johns (1964 700) comments on macs chrome parts. I found them excellent to deal with (and about 1/10th of the price of local stuff) but the dash chrome parts were awful.

Couple of other things to avoid (because we have all been burnt!) don't buy any rubber parts from LMC especially anything to do with the doors! There catalogue is good though! :lol: Macs chrome stuff has been mentioned oh and LMC front bumpers are the wrong curve (but will fit)

I've dealt a lot with the rubber connection and they are always helpful, I do ask them though where various parts come from as to avoid some of the above problems.

Door seals, Dennis carpenters ONLY! he does sell the window kits too but if your talking the bailey channel with the chrome part for the side and top, it's going to be expensive sadly. I got mine from Tom (flashback f100's) who is on this site and very helpful, but the shipping is a killer and tom prefers to use UPS which are eye watering to Australia for bigger items. The problem with them is, even bent to the window shape they are still quite long (go all the way to the bottom of the door) so the packaging is big.

Edit.... Sorry you've got the big slick bumper! Ignore my LMC bumper comments. (But they really are bl00dy annoying they don't fit! Ask me how I know!!)

nice work

i had a 61 f500
many of the parts are compatible with the 4x4 and f350 like the steering gear and column as well as the 4 spoke steering wheels

its a 15000 lb. gvwr truck
mine had a rockwell single speed rear with a very low gear like 6.19 and had a 223 6 cyl

Hi guys just bought a M635CSI here on the coast and was looking at some previous post of photos of car runs. was just seeing were the best to buy parts as its been sitting for a long time and is in need of a couple of parts. hope fully get her out for a run in the next couple of months

A is the product (I assume Fseries)
K is the assembly plant (sadly isn't in the book, but google search turns up sydney)
4
J Body type
F year of assembly
U Month of assembly -Not sure where they start?!?

18783 is the consecutive unit number
429457 Is the dealer order number
73535 is F500 Chassis and Cab, 4sp trans, 174" wheelbase, 4 Tonne capacity.
D42 Doesn't list what this is?! :evil:

D: Engine 6cyl 240
D: Trans NP435 (F500 version)
E: Rear Axle Timken D100 13,000lb capacity 6.2:1
C: Front axle 5,000lb capacity
S: Paint colour, my book doesn't list these, although later in the book it makes reference to Arctic white, brewster green satin red or smoke grey.
Y: trim, again no mention
B: brake booster, Bendix 12 1/4 diaphram type
15000 GVW!

it makes a note that the late 65 used the 66 type data plate.
