Turn the key to the ACC (left) and insert a paper clip.
Out it comes.

This is a job that can be a nightmare if some of the parts have been beaten and abused.. and mixed in from other vehicles... I can recall one time when Both Kid/Darrell and I both had to stop and walk it off ....
It seems like we were trying to do a temporary install of a switch from a junk box full of old locks and keys... Wow was it trying.... Sometimes that spring holding the Collete is twice as strong as the last one you did.. Or am I twice as weak? I don't recall
I know this is a old post but I believe in keeping related info in the same location. I apologize if this is considered "hijacking" a thread.
I'm having a problem with the ignition assembly rotating in the dash on my 65. For the most part, it's pretty snug but sometimes the whole assembly will spin rather than the cylinder rotating. I hope I'm explaining that right.
When I installed it, everything "seemed right" and I aligned the locator notches in the dash (or at least I thought I did -ha!) but it does still rotate. I'm not looking forward to pulling that simple, yet incredibly frustrating, assembly apart again. Has anyone had this problem and/or is there anything I should know before diving back under that dash? The old fat guy isn't much of a fan of that whole twisted/bent/lying on my back thing. Call me picky I guess - lol.
Again, sorry for asking this within another thread on a similar subject but like I said, I prefer to keep related information in a single location as much as possible. Feel free to correct me if this isn't acceptable.
Thanks in advance.

Hey. I am about to instal a new ignition switch housing and had to buy a new spacer for it as well. It would just rotate around using the old one.
