When a person went to the dealer and bought a NEW unibody, where would the spare have been mounted? Was is just lying in the bed?

in the bed would be mounted on a bracket attached to the bedrail and floor on drivers side front
underneath the bed a carrier behind the axle
pretty sure the in bed was for longbeds and underneath for shorts, at least this is what i have seen over the years.

My 61 f250 long bed had the carrier underneath, badly bent and long ago stoved up beyond use.
Now there is a fuel tank in its place. And I'll mount my spare on the side.

I have a '63 short bed uni with the spare tire mount bracket in the bed. I can't guarantee that it is original but it appears to be.....

Anyway you could post a pic? I have the gas tank under my bed and I just don't want the spare lying in the bed.

You may find one that will work from a junk yard , a lot of trucks had inbed spare tire mounts , may not find an orig from your year but you can make them work with a little modification :2cents:
or buy something like this http://www.autoanything.com/hitch-bed-a ... tire-mount

I think the bed bracket was an option, but would put money on it. Just a thought.

Both the in-bed and side mount carriers were listed as RPO (Regular Production Option). I don't believe the hardware for the standard under-bed mount was installed at the factory on those with the above options. Many were installed at dealership level, so it is quite common to find trucks with both mounts.
