I have a 1966 Camper special longbed f-250 2wd that has the 352 and np435 trans.
As Much as I love the way it sounds, Its to expensive and thirsty to drive much.
I want to put a 300 in-line 6 in and I would love to put a 5 speed behind that.
My questions are What do I need to do or get for the Frame attached engine mounts. to replace what is used for the 352
to what is needed for the 300. ON a side note can the same mounts be used for a 302 as well?
As far as the transmission goes Can I use the cross member on the 66?
Will I have to modify the driveshaft?
Any help on this idea would be very much greatly appreciated.
engine swap from 352 to 300 straight 6
Re: engine swap from 352 to 300 straight 6
The link below will cover the pedestals/perches. (BTW: FE & I6 use same pedestals)
But sorry, I have no direct experience with the five speed swap, but several members have done it, so a carefully worded search of the archives should bring up some info....

The perches are the same. The easiest thing to do would be to use the 4spd OD transmission used in the 80s. I think a 5 spd that came with the later 300 sixes used hydraulic clutches, which would require more modification. I had a 65 with the 300 six and 4 spd O/D. Never checked the mileage. The fuel injected sixes will get the best mileage, but will require more wiring.

Perches are the same but need moved.

You might check out the 302 5speed mr52 swap we did in my sons 64'. Has been driving for 2 years & has been flawless. While not the exact same as a 300i or a 66 you should be able to adapt for those. The hydraulic clutch is a breeze and great for driving. If you get a 90-92 tranny you dont have to do all the speedo gear work we had to do.

When you say the perches need to be moved, Can you explain whereto? After reading the link about motor mounts, Would it be better to install the
mounts for a 302? It stated the 302 mounts would make the engine set about an inch lower, remembering that I would like to put in the 300 6,
Would lowering help in any way with handling?
Does the current driveshaft need to be change for the automatic with OD or for the 5 speed manual?
Since I am only in the planning stage, Now is a good time to get all my questions answered.
Thanks alot for all the good info.
