After looking at Michelle's thread for Rangers, and Fortifications thread for 65 - 66 Decode.

I checked my body tag... and I have a 4 digit DSO 1834. So what sales district is 18?
My 1961 shop manual has no reference to DSO at all. So, what say those with literature that might give a clue...

Are you sure it not 16?

.....or possibly even 13 ??

I did some digging last night, and any place I found listings of DSO's, all of them were missing 18, 19 & 20, some had an even bigger gap in the numbers??

What assembly plant did you truck come out of?

James

Kansas City is the assembly plant.
DSO is 1834. Took a pick with the smart phone, and enlarged...
I have no doubt of the numbers.

WB 122

Model F250
Trans F
Axle 26
Gvw 7400
HP 114
RPM 3600
DSO 1834

I checked my manuals for 57 to 63 and 64 to 72 and neither of them show a DSO code of 18. Post the picture that you took.

Excuse the mess on the tag.

It would be later in the week if you want a blow up of just the DSO.

None of my sources show a DSO code 18 either. However, don't special-order vehicles have a 4-digit code after the DSO, to represent the invoice number? Since this tag only has four numbers there (instead of the six it should have), I'm wondering if perhaps the DSO code was omitted and just the invoice number stamped onto the tag?

I have read that Ford did not stamp Dso numbers on early 61 trucks, don't now if that's true.
Or if 4 digit DSO represents some other variable Ford didn't find important enough to document in manuals.

But, when it comes time to sell that 4 digit code means this truck is a one off. +$10,000

You may be right, may be they left off the DSO code and just put on the special order number. The one thing I have learned about Ford is that nothing is carven in stone. This is a first for me and I have looked at a lot of codes over the years.
