Well I guess I should stay off craigslist  . Was searching and found this 1966 F100 LWB 4x4 pretty much original truck (F11YK747579 ). The door tag is still there. The motor (Y code) has been changed out to 360 or 390 by decal on valve covers (1973 vintage). It is a custom cab ( C81) , paint code ( B) Caribbean Turquoise, Axle code (08) 3:50 gears. It runs (kinda needs tuned up / carb rebuild) and drives even has brakes. It has been sitting since 2009 ( dates on plates). Looks like it was originally sold in Golden CO by the dealer sticker on it, it went to South Dakota where the seller I got it from had it for a couple of years in NW Iowa. Only a mere 500 miles from my house. So loaded up the trailer and my son and off we went. I knew it was gona need floors but after further looking will probably need to find a donor cab. It came with an extra pair of fenders (not to bad) I am going to change them out and put one of my spare bumpers on the front. Gona be a project for a later date (retirement??). I will put it in the back of the building next to my 66 F100 SWB 4x4. Try and pickup parts here and there.

I think the original floor mat is there the floors are nbad enough that it has multiple holes in it. The driver's side of the lower front all layers are gone. Gona put some different front fenders on it. Will get a better idea of how bad the rust is the then. The seat cover is tore up.

Thanks for removing the temptation.

The only big surprise was the cab was worse than I thought it was Gona be. Expected the normal floor rust . The plus side is it is all there and it drove on the trailer. The 4wd trucks are are hard to find around here. He came down on his price. Gona play around with it. The good thing is the cab is the same as 2wd for the 66 so it is a findable part. Something else to keep myself amused in the garage.

On the positive side the hood and doors are rust free, the tailgate will need minimum rust repair. A nice set of front fenders came with it. Looks like the windshield was recently replaced.

Well decided to do some basic maintenance before I put it up. Change the oil/ filter, plugs and rebuilt the carb. Figured that who knew when the last time the antifreeze was changed. Drained the radiator and then pulled the lower hose off and saw there was oil in it !!!!! Probably a bad head gasket. There was no antifreeze in the oil. On the positive side it seems to run pretty well and went up and down the driveway without any scary noises!!! Gona pull off the bumper and fenders and replace then with some spares!!! Then off to get the Highway patrol to do a VIN # inspection so I can get the title in my name. I will post some pics later after the bumper and fenders are replaced.

Couldn't stand looking at the curled up / rusty fenders so changed them out with the set I got with the truck. Had to put a little rattle can primer on them the baby blue was not gona pass!!! Dug around and found a bumper that was straighter than the one that was on it. Gave it a bath and it looks much better. Here are some pics of it cleaned up.

Now it can rest in dignity until you're ready to bring it back.

Since who knows when I will get started on it if it looks better it will get me more enthused.
Now it's time to start gathering parts here and there. They are always easier to find when u don't need them. I have always liked the 4x4's. Since my first slick in about 1980!!

That's the truth. You find parts when you don't really need it. And you seem to have money then too...

The SWB 4x4 I bought about 7 yrs ago and got some of the work done on it and put in the back while I worked on my wife's car 66 mustang coupe. It is done now so the father/son project with his 61 Unibody Short bed is now under way (well at lest moved to the garage from the back). When we get some work done on it I will post some pics.
Just find parts and then find nicer ones so the piles get bigger!!!!

Lookin good dude!

Did any of the nuts give you fits? I broke the bolts holding the front bumper on my 65. Several of the encapsulated nuts are giving me fits on the grill. About to pull the core support off with it. Either that or get a torch wrench.
