I'm in a similar situation. Not DHS, but another federal agency (I can't mention) that hasn't been funded. We're also working and have been told we'll get paid only one more time unless an agreement is reached. I have a little set aside so we're OK for now, but if the "shutdown" continues into February I guess I'll have to break out the credit cards.

It's very frustrating. It's called a "shutdown" but the government doesn't really shutdown. We're here, we're working, doing the same jobs at the same level of service. So most citizens don't see any impact at all. And I read over the weekend that a bunch of TSA employees are calling in sick. We're not allowed to do that during a shutdown without a doctor's note.

You asked us not to get into politics and I'm happy to oblige. But I will say that we've come to a sad, sorry state of affairs when this crap is the new normal.
