If you could go back in time
And money was no object
And you could get a custom built Slick with period Ford parts
What would you have built for yourself ?
..... ...... ...... .... .....
I'll go first... and since I'm partial to working trucks ....
1966 F350
CrewCab ... but I want a 9' bed behind it (not a short bed)
Then a 390 from a car , with an automatic transmission
Then I would have it converted to Four-Wheel-Drive
Bucket seats front & back
And AC

I think sometimes I was built with too much daydreaming in my brain

1966 F100 SWB 4x4. Ranger package and prety much all the options plus a 428 PI engine for good measure. I'm pretty much working on building this truck now except do to modern day reality I'm using a fuel injected 302 and an overdrive automatic.

Pat I would like the same truck except for one thing I would change is a 428 or 427 Turbo Charge,, outside Tucson I know where there is a 67/72 crew cab with a 428 turbo charged truck, sad thing it cannot be bought for personal reasons by the owner,,

Wondering why you want a 534 in a pickup? Many years ago we had a 534 in a rollback at a dealership I worked at. All I remember is thinking what an underpowered pig the truck was given the size of the engine. I love Ford trucks but to be honest I think the IH we had on the farm with a 345 and similar GVW ran almost as good. A slightly lighter Chevy with a 427 that I drove a few times would easily outrun both of them.

Apparently that 534 wasn't healthy
I've got one in a F1000 and it runs wonderful
I've never seen a gas engine with so much lugging power
I had a Chevy c-80 with a 409... not even close

That's what I would have thought. I was just a kid at the time and I know the shop foreman said they had worked on it but still couldn't get it to run better. Must of had something wrong with it. Truck was a C900. Still not sure I'd want a 534 in an F350 vs a healthy 427/428 that revs higher and quicker. I had 4x4 pickups from a 1960 F100 up through a 1986 F350, all with 460s, all were fun to drive.

Yea.. that 534 in a pickup would be cool
But even an F350 leafsprings would get squishy with their weight
And squeezing 7 mpg would be a miracle

This interesting Ford truck was built by Dearborn Steel Tubing in 1963...
If I remember correctly bring them a new slick they would build you one too. For a little cash outlay.

Owning an original 61 F100 XL drag truck might be SLICK.
And now that I pointed this out to you boys,
I'll own #3 of 100 or so, it will not be a one off me thinks.
