My clutch failed as I pulled into my favorite coffee shop (McDonald's) at 0500 the other morning. Pedal went right to the floor with nearly no resistance at all. I opened the hood and looked over the linkage and could see nothing obviously wrong. I figured my pressure plate had failed or release fork had broken inside the bell housing. I tore it all down, but everything checked out just fine. Drove me nuts. No adjustment on a clutch and linkage that appeared just fine. After spending a few hours over a few weeks fooing with it, a friend came over tonight and we finally decided to take the z-bar out to examine it more closely and found it had split.
Now to see if I can find another, or try to repair this one. At least I finally know what happened.
Has anyone had this happen to them before?

I had one do the same thing, took it to a welder that heated and returned it back in place then welded it back together. That was five or six years ago, works fine still......looks like the nylon bushing might of disappeared too.

I agree with Dan...clean it up and weld it back together. I'm not an expert welder (by no means) but I would certainly try to repair that before discarding it.

If I had a Mustang, then parts are plentiful, but...... Tinkering is one of the things I enjoy about owning this truck, besides, that's what my grandpa did to keep it running the years he owned it. A friend of mine who makes his living restoring old Porsches has agrees to help me repair it. Looking forward to learning something today.

The part is repaired. Hope to have time to clean and paint all the pieces, test the linkage and adjust the clutch Sunday.
