Being mostly a Ford truck guy i\O am not familiar with this numbers matching thing for Fords, I always thought it was a GM thing. I was told different by Paul and some others of faceplant.
Should this Ranchero have a Numbers matching drive train?

It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

Well, it may very well be rare, but the seller hasn't even listed a price?
It would be interesting to see what one of the "Experts" projects it will be worth after restoration, but resto won't be cheap!!
And if you don't have any idea what a Torino Shaker hood, shaker scoopy c/w air cleaner assy goes for these days, make sure you're sitting down when you start looking at the prices:)

Numbers matching is refering to the vehicles V.I.N. being stamped on major components such as the engine block and tranny. GM was doing this way before Ford but it was the insurance industry that pushed for it to discourage auto theft. By 1968? I think Ford had a partial VIN which was the last six digits for the serial number. By 1970 it may have been a full VIN however, I am not an expert here. I am not aware of the tranny having a VIN.Johnny Canuck wrote:Being mostly a Ford truck guy i\O am not familiar with this numbers matching thing for Fords, I always thought it was a GM thing. You mean the $1,234,567 isn't the price! It is very rare after all.

I’d like to see the VIN number on that Ranchero.
According to the link below the Rancheros had Cleveland motors.
Further down the link claims 429 CJ motor.
